We did a day trip Drive from Christchurch to specifically try The Fishwife and it was worth the drive! We arrived at 12pm and there were crowds of people down by the wharf where The Fishwife was. Fantastic setting! Our order was 3 Blue Cod, 1 grilled Crayfish, and 1 scoop of chips. This was the freshest, most delicious Blue Cod We have EVER tasted ... who knew it could be this good!? The chips were of a very generous portion and golden crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The Crayfish was perfect. We noted most people had ordered Blue Cod and Crayfish. The Fishwife has an area overlooking the wharf where you can eat. They supply napkins and tomato sauce. We will definitely come again.
So happy I found this place! I was itching for some good fish and chips and saw it was recommended in an online article for the area I was in. It's very local, nice to be away from tourists. The cod was excellent - light batter and flaky, delicate fish. The crayfish was delicious as well - they suggested it grilled and it hit the spot. It's right on the water with a beautiful view. They are only open Friday through Sunday, so plan accordingly, you will be happy you did! Wheelchair accessibility: Gravel parking lot, but no stairs or curbs or bumps to get over. One local pulled right up to the ordering counter on his mini-bike. :D
The crayfish is fresh, juicy and a little sweet. The blue cob and chips are tasty as well. Yum! The staff is very polite and nice. A great experience with The Fishwife!
A nice place to stop by at Moeraki to have seafood beside the beach. Not a cheap price but okay to experience it. Quick serving and have some tables and chairs out of the store, or you can have the meals dine in as they have tables. Free salt pepper and tomato sauce at the counter. Parking: Off road parking and muddy when wet Wheelchair accessibility: No access for wheelchair
This hidden gem. We came across this on our way up from Dunedin. As skeptical as we were, the food was simply magical. Freshly caught crayfish with a dollop of butter and garlic. Simply out of this world. Been here twice since, driving 1.30hrs for this. Totally worth it.
Delicious baked crayfish! The fish and chips was good too. The batter on the fish was thin and crispy. The fish was fresh too. There's a few tables to stand around to eat and one picnic bench. Best to takeaway if you have little children as it will get quite hard to eat the crayfish there standing while trying to mind the children. Plus it gets quite crowded as many people know about this place.
If you want the freshest fish and chips then you need to come here. The fish is so fresh you can almost taste the sea water.... So so yummy! Wheelchair accessibility: Open wide access
Fish and crayfish were both fresh and tasted heavenly. Light and crispy batter on the cod and crispy chips. The crayfish was well seasoned. Must visit if you’re in the area.Recommended dishesBlue Cod, Grilled Crayfish and Chips
Just fantastic service. Best fish and chips with crayfish! Went there again for more servings of crayfish and chips, all worth it! Bring your friends for an ultimate roadtrip next time!
Perfect way to have your fish n chips...right over the water. Nothing fancy, nothing pretentious just good old honest fish n chips cooked just right. Blue Cod and a half scoop for only $13.50...generous portions and the staff and service were top notch!
