Always worth stopping in at Sheffield Pies. Whenever I'm there it feels like a hub for outdoors-y types to meet before or after an excursion to Arthur's Pass or the ski fields, so there's often lots of fit looking bods around, many motorcyclists too. It's a great place, and they've really got service down to a find art. Oh yes, the pies - fantastic. There's a reason they've got a name for themselves, they're simply delicious. Any flavour, the fillings and the pastry, just spot on. Well worth adding to your stops when traveling through Sheffield.
Loved the cafe, the country feel and decor. Then there’s the world famous pies! I had peppered steak and it was delicious. The staff were cheerful and provided great service. Toilets we’re clean with one wheelchair access which is good. Its a must stop when travelling through Sheffield or a day excursion from chch checking out some small Selwyn towns and snow in the winter.
Did a two week drive around the South Island and also coincidentally did a pie tour during this whole time. Hands down, Sheffield Pies were by far the BEST pies of the entire trip! I tried the venison whiskey pie and it was delicious! The flakey top was my favorite part of the pie. I wish I had bought more than 1 pie. Highly recommend you stop here and get a pie or two!
We stopped by for a late lunch on the way back to Christchurch from the ski fields. I place isn't too hard to find since it is on the main highway, just keep an eye out for all the parked cars in the area. There is quite a bit of street parking on both sides. It wasn't too busy when we arrived so we opted to eat in. They have so many flavours in their pie rack that it was quite hard choosing just one. In hindsight, I probably could have gone for two but I was also interested in trying out their sweet treats in the cabinet beside the pies. I tried both the venison pie as well as the Sheffield supreme and I definitely preferred the supreme. The bacon and onion with the beefy gravy was divine. The cheesecake was ok, as were the shakes. The fruit pie, peach and passionfruit, was surprisingly tasty since the passionfruit flavour wasn't overwhelming. It was definitely a great pit stop since the pies were really tasty. The only sad part was that we had to leave the snow early since they do close at 1600 but it was kinda worth it. Parking: Street Parking
Bl***y marvellous pie shop. What a fabulous selection of pies, savory and desert, pasties, biscuits and tarts. Great place to stop when on Arthur's Pass road to or from West Coast or in inland route north or south bound. Excellent coffee and friendly efficient staff. Great place to visit regularly or occasionally. Highly recommended.
If you are a pie lover then look no further than a Sheffield steak and cheese pie. Beautiful and tasty and are a regular stop for me on the way past. Lovely and friendly staff too. Plus used their bathroom and was lovely and clean! A+++ highly recommend. Don't forget to blow on the pie!
Amazing pies. Not just the quality but the range of flavours with savoury and sweet options and the prices a very reasonable for what you get. Coffee and other cabinet food is available too. Shame the owners are moving on so get there while you can, there’s a reason the make 6000 pies per day!m
Curious as to how the name of the shop came about but it definitely worked out for creating buzz and how it’s deemed to be one of those essential pit stops for your road trip! We tried the Beef and onion and Butter chicken pies and thought they were great.
A great stop for refreshments to or from Arthurs Pass. Delishious pies we had steak, onion, cheese And venison, whiskey, the cabinet food looked amazing too. Wish I had room for a custard square.
We stopped on a whim and I’m so glad we did! It didn’t show up when I was looking for restaurants on google. Their pies are excellent. Great choices. Edited to add: After 4 weeks travelling around NZ and many pies tried, Sheffield pies were by far the best!
