We chanced upon this place while driving back to Christchurch, and boy what a pleasant surprise. Beautiful interiors and everything you’d expect from a top class winery. We especially appreciate the top notch service from the staff, who was excellent in her product knowledge and friendly! Food was great inside the cozy sitting area in front of the fireplace. Highly recommended!
Great dining experience in the outdoors by the stream. Simple food which pairs well with wine. Also has the Indulge tastings at the cellar. The staff is very friendly and attentive. A recommended place to come if you are in the vicinity. Do book before coming as they have limited seats
Came out here specially from Arrowtown to visit The Cloudy Bay Shed. We are so happy we came out to this winery. In terms of what The Cloudy Bay Shed offers versus other local wineries, this one is in the top 3. We were greeted by the wonderful manager who made educated recommendations based on our personal preferences, and tailored a special wine tasting just for us. The experience from start to finish was fantastic, and the wine was excellent. We felt we could sit in the lounge area all afternoon snacking and tasting wine, while looking out over the vineyard, with the beautiful lakes and mountains in the background. There’s great parking and amazing views.
So glad we made the short drive to come here from Cromwell! Beautiful - architecture, food, wine, service. The Shed looks out into a small lake, vineyards behind, and the dining space gives you headspace. They have a grazing menu, not cheap, but superb, and the wine matching lifted both. We had the award winning lamb tartare with the 2012 Pinot Noir, the rabbit with the Pelorus, fresh focaccia and home made truffles. Service was great, friendly and efficient. We left on a high with a couple of bottles of amazing wine. Only sad we were driving so one glass of wine each. Also highly recommend their tasting flights, had one in Marlborough.
Very disappointed. This place is absolutely picture perfect but that is it. First of all you don't take cash, cash is legal New Zealand tender and you have no right to decline my hard earned cash. You told us you were fully booked and could only serve us Bread and oil while you had a grand total of 17 customers in your restaurant while we were there and you never once offered water to us, which I may add is totally against your liquor license rules. You do not deserve my money in a time where absolutely every single business is crying out for customers I would have thought you would do anything to cater to paying customers
Had an exceptional wine tasting experience. The lady who took care of us had a great knowledge of all the labels and history. We can tell she really put her heart into this job. Thank you!
Nice spot. Great tasting food Plate size is quite small so order plenty. Wine selection a little restricted. Not a lot for children. Quite high prices and inflexible regarding payment so watch that if you're hungry or in a group.
The winery is beautiful! It has a huge vineyard and a beautiful garden! We love the views and the location. Great pitstop between Lake Tekapo and Queenstown. Good to call and reserve a table early for lunch as the kitchen closes around 4.30pm. The wine was absolutely fantastic too. Just take note to enquire if their dishes are cooked or raw. Some food are served raw to best pair with wine.
The location is very pretty with a small pond with tables and chairs excellent for a bottle of vintage bubbles.
Great views and lovely building and tasting room. There were 4 of us for tasting, 3 chose the standard flight of 4 wines for $15, but as a red lover I chose the flight of 3 Pinot noir for $20 including 2 of the Te Wahi 2012 and 2018. I thought the size of the tasting was too low, I basically got one sip of the 2012, she suggested I do a side by side tasting of the 2012 and 2018, the side by side comparison just highlighted how the volume of the 2012 was so much lower than the 2018. To make it worse the last wine of the flight of 4, was the same 2018 Pinot noir yet all three of their samples were bigger than mine. One person, not a red lover, poured half of her sample in my empty glass, and it went higher than my original sample! I understand that I was tasting more expensive wine but one was the same and I was already paying an extra $5. We went to pay and they moved a wine list to expose the sign on the counter saying cashless. We then pulled out our cards to comply but were informed they would not take separate payments. If you want to make it easier for your business and use technology then it doesn’t take much time to allow our group to do a couple of extra payments, as we had one couple and two singles. The taste I had left in my mouth wasn’t pleasant, it seemed to be about maximum ease and money for Cloudy Bay and not much care for the customer.
