Stopped in for a coffee and was really impressed — it was smooth, well made, and exactly what you want from a good café. The hot chips were the real standout though: perfectly fresh, golden, and wonderfully crispy on the outside while still fluffy inside. Simple food done really well. A great spot for a quality coffee and a satisfying snack, and somewhere I’d happily return to again.
Visited this cafe enroute from Picton to Christchurch Sunday 01.02.2026 around 11am.nA woman was standing in the doorway with her 2 french bulldogs on leashes, and the dogs were inside the cafe and 3 of the staff were crouched down petting the dogs. When I approached the counter, the counter staff and kitchen staff returned to their jobs, none of them washed their hands before resuming their work. I ordered a small flat white coffee , a cheese roll and a mince&cheese pie. Coffee was great , cheese roll OK but the pie was a steak pie - I realised this after 2 or three mouthfuls as the first couple of bites were pastry crust and gravy. Returned to counter to say this was not the pie I ordered. There ensued a hostile reaction from the lady in the kitchen, when I said, I don't want another pie - I would just take a refund and be on my way. She was furious and said that I had eaten half the pie so she would give me half the cost of the pie. I insisted on a full refund, and she angrily said, well next time don't eat half the pie. My response was, well give me what I asked for in the first place. It took 2-3 bites to get into the pie to realise it wasn't what I ordered. I thought it was all not a very good look so have rated it 1 star

Great service. Good pie. The coffee was pretty bad to be honest, bitter and burnt tasting. Brought 26 Dec 11.15am
