Our work is supported by caring New Zealanders. Your gifts of time, skills and money mean we can continue to practically and emotionally assist people with cancer. Posts on this page do not necessarily reflect our opinions.
We are regarded as one of New Zealand’s most trusted charities and our focus is to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer in the community.
There are many ways we can support you if you or a family member are affected by cancer.

SUPPORTIVE CARE AND INFORMATION
The Cancer Society offers a range of support services to people affected by cancer. Our experienced cancer nurses provide information and support. We have a range of publications about cancers, treatments and cancer risk. We give practical support to help patients and carers manage their cancer experience, and offer counselling to help people and their family/whānau adjust to the emotional impact of cancer. We can arrange transport to treatment related appointments and provide accommodation for people having to travel away from home for cancer treatment.
REDUCING THE RISK OF CANCER
The Cancer Society works collaboratively with national, regional and community groups to influence public policy and support people to stay well.
CANCER RESEARCH
The Cancer Society funds research for detecting and treating cancer more effectively. We are the largest private funder of cancer research in New Zealand. We award scholarships to PhD students to undertake advanced research in the field of cancer. We also fund the Cancer Society Behavioural Research Unit at Otago University.
