The Butcher Baker is a true hidden gem in Helensville; we were not expecting to find such an elevated dining experience in this small town!nnAmbiance:nThe interior is gorgeous, but what really catches your eye is the open wood-fire kitchen. It was such a pleasure to watch the head chef cooking with such joy and precision. You can see the attention he gives to every single dish, and the way the fresh ingredients are displayed is a beautiful touch.nnService:nWe were served by a lovely, friendly waitress who was very attentive to our requests, which we especially appreciated as we were there with our little baby.nnFood:nI was happy to see gluten-free options on the menu, though since the food looked so good, I found myself wishing for even more variety! We ordered the fish ceviche, pork belly, and steak. While the ceviche was good, the pork belly was the star of the show. It’s the kind of dish I would order over and over again. My husband loved it so much he joked he could have 'licked the plate clean.'nThe steak was also absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. My husband is a huge meat lover and noted that cooking such a thick cut over an open fire to a perfect medium-rare is quite a skill! It was accompanied by an amazing green sauce that complemented the flavor without overpowering the meat.nnOverall, a surprising and wonderful find outside of Auckland!
Relaxing atmosphere, amazing service and beautiful decor! They have some really interesting books and magazines to browse in the restaurant as well, such a lovely touch adding to the details in the space.nnWe came here for brunch on a weekday and the staff were so kind and friendly.nnWe ordered coffees and three mains from their breakfast menu - the buckwheat pancake, the farm breakfast, and smoked tomato with scrambled eggs. Coffees arrived promptly and the mains shortly afterwards. Everything was delicious, we could tell all dishes used seasonal ingredients and fresh produce!nnWould definitely come again to try their lunch or dinner as their menu changes according to seasonal availability! Thanks to the team for giving us such a great experience :

The open kitchen adds to the experience — you can watch the chefs work their magic over a real wood fire, which adds incredible depth and flavour to every dish.nnEverything we ordered was beautifully cooked and bursting with flavour — easily some of the best food I’ve had in years. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and stylish without being overdone.nnThe staff were fabulous — friendly, attentive, and impressively professional. And the chef? Absolutely incredible. You can tell there’s real passion and skill behind every plate.nnThis place is a true secret out West — Can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended.
