Story

The Belgrove Tavern.

The Belgrove was originally as a 13 bedroom hotel in 1856.
At that time the area was know as 'Bell Grove', named after an area on the outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland.

The Belgrove Hotel became a stopping off point for both railway workers and weary travellers, eager for refreshmet and supplies to sustain them on their journey.

On the 2nd of April 1930 the then licecee Mr. Albert Winks was devistated when a fire destroyed the building. However, a rebuilding project commeced i double-quick timead the new 'Inn' was reopened on 16th October of the same year.

In 1975, the pub was granted a Country Club Charter, and so it remained until 1997 when it was reverted to a Inn and renamed The Golden Downs, in honour of the surrounding forest.

Jacqui & Graeme took possession of The Golden Downs in 2002 and the name 'Belgrove' was restored. Today, The Belgrove Tavern is still the hub of the now largely rural community.

Jacqui & Graeme have worked tirelessly to improve the expansive gardens, and they offer a safe 'park over place' to the many tourists in self-contained motor homes and campervans who travel to the Nelson area along State Highway 6.

For over 150 years, The Belgrove has offered shelter, food and drink to travellers and locals alike.

Defiantly the best garden bar around! Cool dog to roaming round like he owns the place too. Classic kiwi pub
Gorgeous gardens. Loved the gates. Super cool dog called Bella.
Good break on bike ride. Lady a little grumpy at first but warmed up when we played with her lovely dogs.
What a great place, excellent outdoor area and would highly recommend visiting here if you ever have the chance
Lovely setting. Pleasant hostess. GD coffee
Lady was creepy weird and had no knowledge of her surroundings. Don't park here to do the Spooner Tunnel adventure, it's not the closest place, there is a carpark 500m from the tunnel
Lovely and quiet. A nice place to have a relaxing beer and a game of pool. That's if the lady publican wasn't always pissed outta her head and grumpy. She's a right drunken gem.. Every time I've been there she's been drunk toasted outta her head.
Our local pub where one can have a quiet beer and a chat with the locals
Beer is good, garden is lovely but the food is rubbish, all fried stuff, really guys, you have so much room for improvement on the weekend lunch menu
Nice place to stop and nice berry cider
