The Apothecary Licensed Eatery

About

Licensed Eatery situated in the heart of the Howick Village...The Cafe area shuts as of 4:00pm daily and the adjoining bar runs through until late night.

Story

Antiques meet fine food, fresh coffee and an eclectic ambience.

Part bar-café, part restaurant, part antique emporium, a visit to The Apothecary is a totally unique experience. A busy bustling environment mixes industrial chic concrete floors and factory lamps, with an authentic 1950’s continental apothecary shop, that looks like it has just stepped out of a Tin Tin novel.

Food here is a passion, with the emphasis on great tasting fresh local produce, with a mixture of European/Asian and Kiwi influences. We also feature a fully stocked continental-style bar with Peroni and Craft Beers on tap plus a wide selection of quality spirits and local and international wines.

Dotted around you’ll discover anything and everything from a goodly selection of newspapers and magazines to Victorian sledges and full sized stuffed trophy animal heads.

We only accept reservations for private functions with 45+ on Saturday nights, ph Ted Waters on 021 047 5786 .

Steak night at the Apothecary, food was good and the atmosphere lively. We had a relaxed enjoyable evening, loved the cocktails. Only downside was we where seated on bar chairs at a bar hight table which was not very comfortable.
Great coffee and pastry. Their almond croissant was delicious. Unfortunately, the way they reheated the croissant was bad. I think they reheated it in microwave, so the crispiness and flakiness was lost and became ruined and soggy. It is also very noisy inside, so recommended to sit outside if you want a quiet place.
Lovely cafe, lots of space inside and out, with an eclectic interior. The waitress was very friendly and checked in with me during eating, and chatted too. I had the waffles, super sugary and crunchy so couldn't taste the waffles- maybe just add a little less next time, more fruit and mascarpone.
Atmosphere was not bad but food was just OK. The hash brown was very cakey for some reason, same for the bread with my avo on toast.
We shared a croissant with salad and it was great as they had split the meal for us. Coffee was 5 star.
The cafe has let their standards slip and they are no longer a five star rating. The food is still nice but nothing special. You can’t order from the breakfast menu after 12, and the lunch menu is lacklustre. My wife and I used to love this cafe and will likely still return to see if this was a once off disappointment.
I had one of the best pies I've had in Auckland. The kitchen staff are excellent. Sadly the counter staff, one of the worst I've seen in Auckland as they seem more interested in checking their cell phones than engaging with customers or focusing on their job. If not for the incredible pies, this would be a one-star review.
