This was such an awesome experience, unique, memorable and really interesting. You get to go on a guided tour underground into the mine, where the tour guide gives you such a deep look into the history of the gold mine and really helps paint the picture throughout his narration throughout the underground tour. We really loved watching the big old battery stamper at work, and panning for gold and other gems at the end our kids were fascinated, awesome tour guide too! . Well worth it experience for us and would highly recommend for others to go!
Russel did such a good job leading the tour. Very informative and we all enjoyed it. Provided a lot of stories and background of how the gold was mined and fined. A must go while you are in Thames. Such a treasure in NZ history.
Really interesting activity.nThe tour guides were super knowledgeable and really friendly! I learnt so much about the mine and its history. I’d recommend anyone who has an interest in the mining history to visit. This also helps support the maintenance and preservation of the mine, since most of the staff are volunteers.
Awesome experiance specially going underground and hearing what the goldminers went through while working their amazing loved the history and seeing how old all the machines were but in presene condition. And listening to the machines work just wow. Highly recommend the visit worth what we payed which was only $60 for 2adults and 2kids.
We did a tour today with Phil. He was such a wealth of knowledge and full of interesting facts all about the history of the mine and the town. The volunteers have put so much work and effort into restoring the equipment and show it running like in the old days. The kids can’t stop talking about it. Great value and well worth a visit!
