Terrace Walk

The terrace walk itself is only about 10 minutes in before it's roped off. We found remanents of a track and had to bushwack & climb up a waterfall about 30 mins before we could get back up to the main track to the bridge. Walked back along the river which was beautiful, but very hot on a sunny day

Short walk in Franz Josef area. Close to the town. Only a small section was open and the rest blocked post the earlier flood damage. Still a good walk in a rain forest like area.

Its a very short track that we discovered leads to nowhere. Its very eerie and when we figured the glow worms were to be found along the track, we turned our lights off and just crouch and look beneath the shrubs. Look out for glow worm lures that look like hanging vertical webs, they are magical! Absolutely amazing when you find them -and its free.

Currently half closed sept 2022. Still worth a walk, but you’ll come to a creek where you’ll have to turn around until they repair the bridge. Great little Forrest walk to appreciate the trees, moss and ferns The glow worms are active in the evening, you don’t have to walk in far - just enough so the streetlights don’t reach in. Takes a while for your eyes to adjust to the dark, but you’ll se the tiny glows around little crevices around trees!

Motorhome parked at one end we walked back around to the motorhome. Interesting little church inside and outside .

Nice forrest walk. A lot of ferns and trees to take photos of. If you're lucky you can catch a look at some cool birds. Maybe don't walk with a paranoid friend who thinks something is behind you.

Loved it! spent a good 30mins exploring the great track. Once it got dark hundreds of glow worms could be seen from the path. great activity for kids. wait until it's completely dark though

There is no terrace and know not where should be the end of the walk But it is a good nature walk for rain forest.

One of the interesting things to do at nighttime in Franz Josef is the short, 100 metre Terrace Walk to see the glow worms. There is a small area to park vehicles at the trailhead. Just look for the sign along State Highway 6 as you enter the village. It is a fun 15-20 minute activity if you are staying in Franz Josef. We made this short walk recently and really enjoyed seeing the glow worms in numerous spots along the trail. Just walk along the path an at times turn off all your torch and just look around. You'll see small specks of light glow worms from time to time. If you crouch down low to the ground, at times you see a fair number of glow worms in the undergrowth, turned over and uprooted trees with exposed roots. Notes: Almost impossible to take pictures of the glow worms so just enjoy seeing them. Take a good torch so that you don't stumble along the walking path.

It looked beautiful and a bit mysterious from three road, so I started to walk this track. But halfway the road was blocked by fallen trees. It didn't seem many people are walking here, so I decided to turn back.
