I’m giving you zero stars for the management of the wetlands. I use to come to the wetlands frequently when I was younger, and I also knew the founder. I am still shocked at how poorly this resource has been managed. My star rating reflects the poor management which has resulted into this wetlands looking more and more like a farm and less and less like water bird habitat. I don’t know how to express my disappointment enough. It looks like due to poor management no one cares so you are burning an iconic landmark in NZ. Someone needs to pull their finger out and do something before it’s gone for ever! I have the correct wetland obviously, I also mentioned I spent much of my time on it and knew the former owner before this happened.... Ducks Unlimited sold the Sinclair Wetlands about 20 years ago to the Government and it became part of the Treaty Settlement with Nga Tahu .
Took our young kids. Was flat and able to use a pushchair. Was worth a visit.
Fantastic place to go and spend an afternoon, wander amongst the wetland, spy the nursery webs, birds and wetland plants.
This wetland is amazing. It is huge! Over 3000000 Sq metres. The original owner was ahead of his time. Could hear the fern birds calling but they are good at hiding amongst the vegetation. There is camping sites available. Very quiet beautiful location.
An environmental gem hidden near Dunedin. Gravel road. The wetlands are being restored and offer a great chance to explore and examine flora and fauna. My two preschoolers and I walked the loop - easy walk and both girls aged 3 and 4 made it round the 2 hr walk. Keep an eye out for the Department of Conservation Kiwi Guardian post too. Lots of wildlife and information panels. Good toilets. Can't wait to explore this in different weather and seasons.
Honestly wish we lived closer to this place! Only saw 2 other people when we went there. Definitely heard and possibly saw 2 fern birds but not confirmed. Lovely birdwatching spot i would highly recommend and will definitely be returning to!
A beautiful place for a day trip. We volunteered helping to restablish native habitats and found it very rewarding. Entrance fee is by gold coin donation. No dogs allowed.
No signage. No access from road at this pinned location.
Beautiful place with walking tracks suited to our young family. Lots of birds about. Lovely friendly staff happy to chat. Boardwalks and well maintained tracks.
good place to go for a long or short walk, the wildlife and plants are amazing, staff very friendly and kind. 10/10 would recommend
