ABOUT TE KOMITI O RUNA
Established in the 1950s, Tūhoe leaders of the day formed the very first hapū based Western Tūhoe Tribal Executive Committee. Later, the committee would become known as Te Koopu and of recent times and referred to now as Te Komiti o Runa (TKOR) ‘the tribal’ or ‘te taraipara’.
TKOR is a voluntary forum comprised of two hapū representatives from each of the twelve marae in the North and Northwest area within the Tūhoe homelands. The mission and purpose of the forum is to raise the vibrancy, vitality, and prosperity of our people guided by Tūhoe values and culture.
Much like its founding predecessors, TKOR is charged with the responsibility to support hapū and whānau realise their aspirations of a future that embodies ‘te mana motuhake o Tūhoe’.
The twelve marae within the TKOR rohe are Te Rewarewa, Ōtenuku, Te Papakāina, Te Tōtara, Tauarau, Waikirikiri, Te Pūtere, Ōhotu, Hui-te-Raniora, Nāhina, Ōwhakatoro and Tāwhia.
