Just a few minutes from Palm Beach and 100 meters from the nearest bus stop, with spectacular views to the beach and out to Little Barrier Island, is this brand-new 70 sq m architecturally designed holiday apartment with its modern design and clever use of space.

Nestled in mature kanuka bush frequented by inquisitive tui and wood pigeons, this two-bedroom hideaway features a beautifully appointed kitchen with all mod-cons. The private deck, positioned to get all-day sun, looks out to the valley and down to the white sandy beach. Sit out on the large bean bags during the day, and have dinner under the stars, cooked on your own BBQ.

Because the apartment, equipped to boutique hotel standard and with 2.7m-high ceilings, is tucked in under the brow of the valley, it avoids the prevailing wind. That and the highest rating insulation and double-glazed panoramic windows mean it's sunny and warm even in the coldest months.

After a day at the beach, watch Sky and Lightbox cable TV or an ample supply of DVDs on the 55-inch TV from the large angled couch. Or laze on the deck in the extra large bean bags, followed by a BBQ dinner under the sun umbrella while taking in the sea views.
