The Barber shop is great if you’re ok with having your time wasted. Since 2020, I’ve been coming here for haircuts and the haircuts themselves have all been great. However, in the last year the administration of their booking system has been a shambles. The result has been me coming in on three occasions in a row only which they acknowledged to find that nobody has been available to cut my hair. What was particularly frustrating was coming in specifically for the third time and being told that there was nobody able to give me a cut, despite seeing at least 5 barbers either chatting to other students or on their phones. Whilst a free haircut is great, the wasted time and unreliability makes this such a bad experience. A real shame as this place used to be amazing and I’d always recommend supporting the students learn how to cut hair, but I’d be embarrassed if I recommended someone come here and they have the same recent experience as me. A recommendation could be that this shop start to charge for cuts to incentivise their barbers to turn up. I’d have been more than happy to pay for all of my cuts for assurance that I wasn’t going to waste my time and trips into town. Gutted to be giving my first ever ‘Karen’ review, but would want to know this myself if I was coming here for the first time
The barber shop is amazing, definitely as good and professional as any non free barber shop I went. I got a new style hair cut whichi is pretty good.
Best barber ever ! Students are super friendly and helpful, let alone the joyful tutor Damond. The service is on point, i visited this barber for about 8 times in a year and always happy with my haircut. Strongly recommended !!!
Tommy is a great host, and makes you very comfortable in the chair. Loves a chat and discuss any given topic as presented. Very eager to learn, makes you feel very welcome and listens well to what you exactly want. good haircuts too!
Great facility but with the blandest exterior architecture that gives no hint it houses a creative hub. There is no engagement with passers by at street level either. Only discovered it existed when my daughter's dance classes moved there. I've been involved in planning and financing 3 of these types of hubs in Sydney and this one is a fail compared with those: Riverside, Powerhouse Ultimo and National art school. It's apparently underutilized which is understandable. The wider Te Aro "precinct" is also a non planning disaster. Creative hubs should energise and interact with the wider precinct but this doesn't. Where's the precinct plan? Just cheap and nasty high rise residential west on Dixon, well below the standards you would get on top of an exurban train station in far western Sydney.
Best place to get your barber style cuts. i have had 2 hair cuts this year from Cole, good guy to conversate with.
The free student barbers at Te ahua are cool, motivated guys who do a good job while getting experience with your hair.
