Pretty good place to stay. It's right opposite the lake and there's a balcony that you can sit on. Rooms seem to be spread out over a couple of properties. Doors and windows in shared dorms don't seem to be locked properly. Kitchen facilities seem fine. There are limited toilets and showers for the number of people but it's mostly manageable. Beds are relatively comfortable but not very steady. If you're in a bottom bunk, you can feel and hear every movement from the top bunk. Walkability: The lake is just across the street and the town is a short 5-10 min walk away.
Such an incredible location for such an affordable hostel. Really friendly staff and social feeling within the hostel. Great kitchen and the living rooms look straight onto the beautiful lake only 10/20 metres away from the water. We stayed in the glamping tent dorm which was really cool. Pretty cold but they provided extra blankets. Could have done with a light in the tent and somewhere to hang towels but apart from that great! We loved our time here.
Good things: Lovely clean room with a kitchen and bathroom which was shared by only one other room. A great balcony with furniture outside of the room. A lovely lakefront position near to the town centre. Great laundry facilities. Bad things: Nothing .
Really great experience after a last minute request for a room trapped by the snow coming back from Milford Sound. Lovely Swedish man at front desk who felt like he really cared. Felt well looked after, nice relaxed feel to the place, lots of nice conversations with others.
Nice but very affordable lodging. Looks like most rooms are two bedrooms with a shared bath and kitchenette. Beautiful location on the lake. Friendly staff. Laundry and plenty of clothes line to air dry.Rooms: 5/5
We did glamping and although the beds were comfortable and we were provided with extra blankets which was great, as it was very cold. However, there was no light in our tent, unlike all the other glamping tents which we could see glowing from the top, so good luck seeing anything past 17:00 and before 08:00 March. The kitchen was great. The toilets were okay and there was only 1 shower available for everyone, which had no ventilation or fan so it was very wet and damp in there.
The reason the website doesn't show outside picture is because the rooms are at a backpackers situated advice the communal kitchen. Room was reasonable but shower was awful, there was no fridge and the glasses were filthy. With no sign it the front it is very difficult to find. I would not stay here again.Rooms: 2/5
Thought this was a spacious and social hostel, walkable to the Kepler Track which I did and enjoyed thoroughly. Great to go in offseason when the track is cheaper as long as weather is good. I met some very interesting people who had done long term tracks across the south island, some for months, and likeminded hikers who were doing all the beautiful hikes around. Everything’s a bit too expensive except Possum Lodge including the hostel, but that’s what to expect I guess. Would definitely recommend you go.
Solid hostel directly by the lake. Large enough kitchen area and common area - nothing spectacular but great value for money and good place to get to know other travelers or start a tour to Milford Sound from.
The dorms are clean and spacious. We were 6 in the room and there was enough space for everyone's luggage. I was in the house in front of the lake that have a terrace. Really beautiful view, great place to have meal or read a book. The kitchen is really great. Could have more frypan but that's all i have to say. Its spacious, clean and tidy. There is always a corner where you can cook. Dylan at the front desk is really nice. One of the best backpackers hostel i had in NZ.
