The Principal has delusions of grandeur, he refuses to acknowledge when he is wrong and does little work contributing to student wellbeing and education. To be honest all I ever see him doing is taking photos and patrolling the school for litter bugs! He was often away during school assembly and when he was there - every single time - he failed to correctly pronounce basic Maori words and phrases. My friend was listening to positive rap music that contained no offensive or rude language, it actually helps motivate him. It was on a speaker which is allowed at the school but he called it a "Ghetto Speaker", there was no need to offend the student or to even interact with him? Wasn't loud or upsetting. A girl was called racist names by the Head-Boy at the school, the Principal ignored it until the Head-Boy student started to be harassed, then gave out a verbal warning to the Head-Boy. Isn't a Head-Boy/Girl supposed to be a positive role model? Why not take away the title of "Head-Boy" from that student? The school has been in the media many times, just Google "Tauraroa Area School NZHearld" from cameras being placed in changing rooms to students having a boating experience at a school trip where they were trapped in a Cave for 2 hours... Outdated view on education, needs to adapt to the 21st Century!
Teachers lack patience. If you're struggling to understand something they tend to get frustrated with you. Due to that and being Autistic I ended up just dropping out at 15 without NCEA Level 1. I couldn't keep up with normal students and teaching methods that work for them don't work for me.
this school made me want to off my self, teachers don’t care about the students. I was crying in the year 13 room once during study period and the graphics teacher kept asking me why i wasn’t studying and he wasn’t even my teacher so i just left. does not care about mental health at all
This school changed my outlook on education- really encouraged me to do well and pushed me to my limits in the best way possible. The community here is amazing and the senior teachers and staff are so lovely. Going to miss but cherish all the memories made here !! Highly recommend sending your kids here.
If you wanna be at a school that prioritises money and it’s reputation instead of it’s students and education, then go to Tauraroa Area School
I was suffering from depression and social anxiety for 4-5 years at the school and the teachers did nothing, now my doctor suspects I have schizophrenia with Aspergers. I went there since year 1-11. The teachers should help those with mental health problems and should be able to detect that somethings not quite right and notify the parents, but they detected nothing. I'm safe and getting the help I need but I recently tried to overdose and if the teachers had picked up that I wasn't right the students could tell that might not have happened. Overall good school, I had only seen about 5 fights over 11 years there, just poor mental health support at the school. This is what I think; some may not agree with me...
Terrible school, Staff wont act untill a student is pushed to the point of depresion, the only staff member more useless then the principal and his ignorant wife is the P.E Teacher Mr Peatree
Do not recommend. There's a lot of gang affiliated students at the school not in gangs but have gang member parents/brothers/cousins. I was asked twice to become a prospect for two different gangs by students at the school. Some of the teachers are a bit "Power Hungry" and overuse their authority e.g. you're a minute or two late to class because you didn't hear the bell -the bell at TAS is very quiet and hard to hear- so they put it on your pastel record, making it a lot harder to pass a job interview.
I've enjoyed this school with a pretty cool community and wonderful teachers. Those long hours staying in class and fewer hours doing my homework have actual pushed me to do more education.
Leave just leave go to boys or girl trust me
