Story

Tauranga Airport is an airport serving the city of Tauranga, New Zealand. It is located adjacent to Tauranga Harbour in the suburb of Mount Maunganui, approximately 3km northeast of Tauranga CBD. The terminal is located to the north of the runway, on Jean Batten Drive, and consists of a two-storey building with four tarmac gates. Air New Zealand serves the airport through its subsidiaries Mount Cook Airline and Air Nelson, with flights to Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. A further two regional airlines also operate to the airport, as well as scenic and charter flights, skydiving operations and general aviation.HistoryIn 1935, the Tauranga Aero Club leased land adjacent to Tauranga Harbour in Mount Maunganui to establish an aerodrome. Up until then, the only airfield serving the town was a runway on the eastern side of the Waikareao Estuary which was only usable during low tide, and it was deemed that a permanent facility was going to be necessary in order to cater for demand in the growing region. The airport opened in 1939 to great celebrations and, later the same year, it was taken over by the Royal New Zealand Air Force, due to the onset of World War Two. During the period of military use, the runways were extended and a hangar was constructed, and the airport was predominantly used as a training station for pilots. The airport was returned to the Tauranga Aero Club in 1945, and in 1946 the club began passenger flights from Tauranga to Motiti Island, and later added flights to Matakana Island. In 1947, the New Zealand National Airways Corporation, commonly known as NAC, began passenger flights to the airport.

Such a busy time, with weather related cancellations. Can't complain when they book you into Stamford Plaza for the night. Food allowance & free taxi return. Great service. Key is, just expect what it is and relax. Things have a way of work out.
No frills but the bed was comfy. Good location near CBD, Latimer square. Subway sandwiches handy for a feed. Close to Arcadia for kids and adults alike. Overall clean and functional and there's usually e-scooters around.
Really great for a regional airport... serviced primarily by ANZ from many other points accross NZ. The luggage came out quickly and the parking is quite close to the terminal.
Tauranga airport situated on the Mount Maunganui side of our lovely area. Is a very accessible airport. Parking is right out front of the main entrance. The parking fees are minimal compared to other airports. The terminal has an easy flow, from check in to departure. Plenty of seating while waiting and good windows for viewing planes coming and going. Especially when you are there to welcome visitors or farewell them.
Amazing, well set out if you need a taxi. Supreme blue sky wow, warm weather, no wind, no pine pollens I could breathe.. Tauranga..didn't love the noisy bomadair plane so much but I guess it's good to remember how far flying had come before covid...and a shout out to that racy flight crew member who tracked down that lady who literally forgot her handbag on the plane. Wow great being an ItalianMaori waiting for your next plane at a regional airport in NZ it a really cool little place Tauranga.
Clean, tidy, professional staff. Perhaps not a good idea though to schedule a toilet clean unless urgent when a plane is due to land!
The new layout is easy to navigate. Nice coffee from the Wayfarer cafe as well.
I love Tauranga and will be back one day again thank you for your hospitality Tauranga
Nice and clean, friendly staff, however $5.60 for a English breakfast tea is far to expensive imo.
Nice cafe uncrowded and helpful car hire folk.
