I was visiting from the States and didn’t have any gear with me, but the team at Four B really came through. They set us up with top-notch e-bikes and took us to some of the best mountain biking trails I’ve ever experienced. It was a total 5-star experience. Thank you, Four B! I’m already looking for dates to come back next year.
Friendly, professional service kitting us out with bikes. We got the hardtail bikes and they were excellent for the huka falls and aratiatia dam loop. First time mountain biking and the trail was fantastic, really varied and interesting and great to see the dam open up too - perfect timing! Thank you to the staff at Taupo mountain bike hire for recommending that route. Had a fab time!
Equipment is wonderful. Guide was fantastic. Trail not as advertised!! Four of us did the Huka Falls trail and we barely made it to the halfway point. The off road trail is super skinny and barely wide enough for the tire width so it was not “easy”. There are steep up hills and downhills and after the first 20 minutes three of us had fallen down a hill, into briars and brush. We began ti walk the bikes up and down hills as we were not comfortable. The grassy hill you warm up on is nothing like the trail! We had the guide call homebase and have someone meet us at the halfway point. The trail did get a little wider approaching this area but it was too late….we were bruised and cut by briars by falling multiple times because it doesn’t take much to slip on rocks and the skinny uneven trail. This is NOT for beginners or anyone thinking they are going for a nice e-bike ride on a wide or gravel trail. The trail needs to be maintained but according to the guide the National Forest won’t let them cut anything or smooth anything out. Not for beginners or even causal bike riders. Nothing against the company or your guide - they are great I just think the adventurous spirit of NZ is much more “advanced” than what we Americans expect by reading the same description. Easy to moderate for NZ is moderate to advanced for American standards!
Such a polite helpful young guy with red hair. Awesome bikes and recommendations for tracks. Thanks!
Unfortunately, the bike had a lot of issues. I've been riding all my life, but I'm visiting from America. So I had to rent. The problems were many...ghost shifting, brakes need to be bled, levers out of wack, one way too far out, and the shift levers sticking. I'm sure the derailleur hanger is bent I explained all the issues upon return, but he didn't seem to care much. He even tried to blame me for the brakes not working. So, this was not a good rental experience for me.
