Community Patrols of New Zealand purpose is to empower communities to prevent crime and create safer environments through the utilisation of trained and equipped volunteer patrols.
The Taumarunui Community Patrol is affiliated to the organisation and has been one of the longerst running patrols dating back 30 years of voluntary services to the Taumarunui community.
A condition of affiliation to Community Patrols of New Zealand is that the patrol has the support and confidence of the Police and has a police liaison officer allocated to work with it.
The patrollers work in pairs noting any suspicious activity and notify Police for any urgent matters. The patrol works together with Police who task patrols around crime hot spots and participating in community events in the Taumarunui area.
Each member must sign a declaration of confidentiality and agree to abide by a code of conduct before working with the patrol.
Applicants are vetted by the Police before becoming patrol members.
