Story

The Tararua Wind Farm is a wind farm owned and operated by Tilt Renewables. It is located on 700ha of farm land on the Tararua Ranges of New Zealand. It has become New Zealand's largest capacity wind farm, with a total capacity of 160MW.The wind farm was first commissioned in 1999 and has been upgraded twice since. The most recent addition was commissioned in September 2007.The wind farm consists of 134 turbines of two different types: 103 Vestas V47 turbines, each rated at 660kW, with three 23.5m blades. Each turbine is mounted on a 40m steel lattice tower.31 Vestas V90-3MW turbines, each rated at 3MW with three 45m blades.

As the name suggests, it is very Very VERY windy!! haha Wow, if you are planning on going for a trip to the wind farm, please prepare wind jacket and warm clothes. The road is unpaved, very muddy when it is rainy. We went there for 4WD driving and it was great fun!!
We passed by the wind farms by accident, the windmills were simply impressive. The scenic road was a great drive. If you're not in a hurry drive this is a must see.
i went there last week and it was cold. i brought some vb and it was the only good thing about this place. it was poo, hated it, i did see a cow there and i took it home. i hate dogs and cats they are the worst house pets. the only good house pet is my cow called william
Roads are poorly maintained. Do not attempt unless you have a vehicle meant for going off road.
An amazing place to visit especially when you have friends from out of the area
Don’t try to go to this google maps location, it’s on private land and you can only get to the foot of the hill
