Tapawera Area School is a state school catering for the needs of Year 1-13 students in the wider Tapawera region of Tasman District.
Tapawera Area School started existence as a primary school at a time when secondary students travelled to Nelson by train for their secondary schooling. The closure of the rail line cemented a need for local secondary education. This was initially provided through Tapawera District High School. Later a number of primary schools were closed and amalgamated to form Tapawera Area School.
