“Nã te atuatanga o te tamaiti hei whakarahi”
Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work
Our Beliefs and Values
We believe that it is vital our centre provides a learning environment that reflects the values and beliefs of the families, whanau and community we are embedded within.
We value children’s play as a meaningful and powerful skill that children use to construct knowledge and understandings of the world around them. It is through this skill children have a chance to construct understandings of how the world works. Within our environment we provide a safe and trusting atmosphere were children can confidently construct, challenge, reform and reshape these understandings. We also believe the environment plays an important part in guiding and assisting children’s knowledge and understandings. This encourages respectfully relationships with people and things.
As teachers our role is to encourage and extend each child’s thinking. We can do this by noticing children’s thinking, recognising the importance of this and responding to this thinking by constructing interactions and the environment to provide opportunities for each child to challenge and extend their thinking As teachers we feel that time needs to be free for discovery to happen this is achieved by restricting routines and transitions for children and allowing them time to make right choices around healthy eating, living, and social situations
We strongly believe that each child in our centre has a right to experience the bicultural nature of New Zealand through everyday activities and language as daily happenings within our centre.
