I just spent 1.5 hours on the road only to find the store closed. I needed to see and decide on the size of expensive brushes and purchase other items that are best chosen in person. The store should at least provide a phone number to check if it's open, since Google Maps showed it as open, which wasn't true. Very disappointed. UPD. Thank you for a quick reply. I arrived around 1:30-1:40 and found the gate closed. I left my car on the road and entered on foot but only saw alpacas. I knocked on doors and walked around to check if anyone was there. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the phone number on Google right away - likely because I was stressed due to the closed gate and visited a couple of your neighbours already. In the end, I'm sure I was at the right place because I saw the iron inscription "TAS" like in your photo and knocked on that exact door.
The new shop is great !! cleverly located in a beautiful country spot, surrounded by fantastic views and tame alpacas. So much stock to choose from and friendly professional advice. Amazing!
My favourite go-to art supply shop. I only ever shop for my high quality items here. They have the best of the best materials you would need from Student - Professional- Artist grade in Auckland. Not to mention Sandy is so knowledgeable and a fantastic artist! Their new location is beautiful, much closer to me too since I’m only in kumeu. I recommend 100% -Ash a loyal customer
This is one of the best art shops I've been to- I find that it is better than more well-known and popular art stores. I buy things from this store online- the online website is very easy to navigate and browse through, and the shipping is at a reasonable price. Selection: This shop has an extremely wide range of art supplies- I actually initially came across this shop because other art shops like Gordon Harris didn't sell the materials I was interested in. Price: The prices of things I personally have bought in this shop are cheaper than that of other art shops. One thing I bought here was nearly $10 cheaper than if I'd bought it somewhere else. My personal experience: Recently, one of my online orders from this shop took a bit longer than expected. It had been two weeks and I hadn't heard from the store and the order status on the website just said pending. Just as I was about to contact the store, I got an email from them and the order soon arrived. When I opened it I was very pleasantly surprised to find a note saying 'sorry this took so long!' and a generous gift, which was very nice. Overall, I would really recommend this store- I will definitely continue to buy my art materials from here :
Had a very lovely shopping experience today with Sandy the owner. She was patient, incredibly knowledgeable and so helpful with our questions about different art mediums and supplies. The new store is on two levels, one with canvases, paper and other such supplies, the paint and other supplies are in a little step down studio behind the first. Two choc full lovely places to browse for supplies. I came away with much more than I went for, which included some sound advice and brilliant service. I highly recommend a visit.
Always a wonderful time to come and visit Takapuna Art Supplies. Great customer service and friendly staff. The quality of art supplies they have is supreme and the only shop in Auckland that sales high quality. I highly recommend this place.
Great product, good shipping time however one of the pencils led was damaged in the carbothello pastel set, it keeps breaking when being sharpened where as I have no issues with the other ones that had minor damage to led. The led was completely broken when I had opened the set. Have tried different sharpening techniques and sharpners even the one the set comes with! as I know pastel pencils led are sensitive but to no luck and down half a pencil, hadn't had them for more than a few hours let alone hadnt touched them. I have emailed them with no response and that was nearly 2 weeks ago. There communication before shipping was good but now nothing. It was a over $250 purchase I had done with them so would have expected at least an replacement for the pencil that was damaged. Bit disappointed and unlikely to purchase again from them for that reason.
Soley relying on previous reviews for my decision to purchase, I was not disappointed. The Christmas present to myself arrived in two days, ordering just days before Christmas. Their prices are super competitive compared to other online art stores, so Ill be back. Safe and happy holidays.
Have just left this store, collecting a few things for the school holidays.. While I was looking a heard the owner speaking to his staff saying “Should have closed the doors”, just loud enough for me to hear.. So I said, Is there a problem? To which I was told the store closed at 2pm. It was 2:03.pm. I had no idea of the store hours.. I should have been told when I entered at 2pm. I wanted to support local. For a very humble looking store, the arrogance fills most of the shop. What a shame!!
Fabulous store, really well stocked. This is the type of store from a different era, before dollar dealers and $2 shops. Amazing quality and rare items, run by enthusiasts for amateurs and enthusiasts alike. The owner works the shop floor, so good advice on hand. This is one of those rare places that's still genuine.
