The Stoney Homestead Community Hub is here to provide vibrant, workable spaces for community use & activities.
Welcome to the Facebook page of the Stoney Homestead Community Hub. This page is administered by the Stoney Homestead Trust.
The Stoney Homestead originates from the mid-1850s and has a rich pioneering history. Farmed by generations of one family for over 150 years, it is the oldest building in the Hibiscus Coast area and provides a prime example of our agricultural past from the colonial era onward.
Rodney Council acquired the Stoney Homestead in 2010, narrowly saving it from demolition. Now, Auckland Council owns the building and surrounding land. The Council is responsible for, and has invested in, the restoration of the Homestead and development of the site for Community Use.
The Stoney Homestead Trust is independent of Council and now leases the building and grounds from Auckland Council. The Trust role so far has been to develop a framework for the Homestead's future use, balancing heritage with functionality in order to ensure the restoration is suited to its anticipated function. The Trust believes that the building's heritage is best experienced and understood through its use by the local and wider community for a range of activities.
Consequently, the goal is to provide workable spaces within the various rooms of the Homestead and surrounding grounds.
Within the Hub are meeting and workshop spaces, rooms suitable for craft/hobby groups, Community support groups rooms along with a kitchen suitable for teaching, community functions and food preparation for Community support or for sale.
Future plans for the facility are for a community garden with fruit trees, raised vegetable garden beds and the establishment of a Community Library.
