What an awesome place to stay on incredible Stewart Island. Our room was really comfortable with excellent bathroom. Every room including ours had stunning view across the harbour. There’s a covered deck with a big table and lots of chairs to sit on and just take in the incredible location. Breakfast was excellent. Lots of choice and gluten free options. Hilton was so friendly and helpful. Have booked again in November. Can’t wait to go back!
Cindy and Hilton were absolute legends in hosting us on Stewart Island. Don't hesitate in choosing this great location as your hub for the Island activities. Their continental breakfast is substantial, their hospitality unmatched and their location is superb. We left this lodge knowing we absolutely made the right decision. Oh..and the beds were so comfy! The perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary.
Stewart Island was easily the highlight of our NZ trip in November, in no small part due to the exceptional hospitality at the Stewart Island Lodge. The hotel offers stunning views and extremely comfortable beds the best sleep of the trip!. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. What truly sets this hotel apart are its incredible owners, Hilton and Cindy. From their warm welcome and quick town tour when they picked us up at the airline drop-off we highly recommend flying instead of taking the ferry! to their delicious breakfasts, their thoughtfulness was unmatched. The hotel felt very personal, with opportunities to meet people and families from all over, and Hilton and Cindy were always happy to answer any questions. We wish we had stayed longer and would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!
Our stay at the lodge was a special birthday treat. We were met by Hilton who explained he was on his own as his partner was out of the country. After giving us a brief tour around the village we were taken up to the lodge, shown our room and left to settle. The lodge is up an approximate 30deg incline so not particularly friendly for folk with limited mobility. The access off the road to the lodge was certainly not for anyone of limited mobilty .We did climb this 5times in our 2 day stay, admired the fabulous view while regaining breath. Guests have to go to the village for meals other than breakfast, otherwise self cater. There is no room service unless guests asked. Therefore if the beds are left in the morning, returning in the evening they were still unmade and the room as left. Justification for this was environmental which we felt ,given the actual cost of 2nights was not acceptable. As NZ guests we acknowledge the host and his attempts to make our visit enjoyable. The scenery, beauty and environment were stunning but we had expectations of this special lodge which sadly were not met.
We had a fabulous three-night visit here. Cindy was away but Hilton was a great host, kind and hospitable. The perch above Thomson Bay is the kind of place you really don't ever want to leave. Excellent choice for a visit to this magical island.
