Best day EVER! I drove over from kapiti to do this workshop. Honestly, if you are further away, its worth the trip! Shea was an amazing teacher. I wasn't terribly confident that my body could handle the hammering of the steel. He was really gentle and supportive with me and my friend. He helped just enough to make the end result awesome, but not so much that i felt like I hadn't made my piece myself. We learnt all sorts of new skills and were both very happy with the results. There is the creative freedom to make something unique if you wish. They have tiny little forges that somehow made the process less intimidating. I came away with a very cool wand. I will be back for another workshop soon..... a knife or the wood wands.... such decisions! Parking is easy. Stackhouse knives is a real asset to Wellington. This is exactly the type of kiwi experience we need to support! All in all a very empowering experience.
My partner was given the class as a present. He loved it so much that he requested I write a review. The class was so well organized and the person teaching it was very knowledgeable. He loved the whole experience and the knife! Thank you.
Amazing time, they both were fantastic at walking our group through the basics of knife making. I would recommend this to anyone with even a passing interested in this. We were involved in every step of the way and everyone walked away with a unique knife.
Fantastic.....I had the best 3 day experience of my life... The process is so much fun and the people, both on the course I was on, and the instructors were fantastic. I can not say enough about the instructors....I had never work with metal before and the process was made clear and safe the whole way through...I was given the freedom to do everything that I wanted... But help was there for anything I needed... or to guide me away from my mistakes....I really feel like I made this knife and that makes it special to me. GREAT great course....I for one will be going back for more. Thank you very much, Shea & Lena, for a wonderful 3 days that I will not soon forget.
Did their Chef Knife making course, had an amazing time working with Shea and the guys. Super experienced and knowledgeable and came out of it with a really cool sharp as anything knife. Would recommend whole heartedly, and it makes a great Christmas gift
Awesome experience! Really Friendly people and amazing teachers!
We completed the Damascus knife making course. Shea and Lena are awesome teachers, taking you through each step of the knife making process in great detail and making it all super easy to understand. The course is 3 days, but you need that time to get a good product at the end. We finished the course with two stunning and practical knives. I highly recommend this workshop, and Shea and Lena. Thanks guys, we had a blast.
Recently did the two day knife making workshop. Had a great time, learnt a lot of new skills, and got to play with fire and tools. Couldn't have asked for a better experience, and I'm stoked with the knife I made. Shea and Lena are so knowledgeable and happy to share what they know. Well worth doing a workshop or just checking out all the cool stuff they make.
A mate and I both did the two-day chef knife course this weekend and we had a ball. Shea and Lena are both awesome and very knowledgeable. Stoked with the knives we made and are keen to get back and do the damascus course!
I would highly recommend a visit to attend any of Shea's workshops. There are options to spend a few hours learning how to properly sharpen your knives, a day making a small knife from scratch or go the whole hog and spend 3-4 days making your own billet of Damascus and then use it to make your own knife. All the options are made fun and with Shea's experience and knowledge you are kept right even if you have no experience yourself.
