St Vincent de Paul, Porirua is part of the International Society of St Vincent de Paul.
The Society exists to help people in need.

Mission

A St Vincent de Paul Society Centre is a Centre of charity, where needy people may be confident in the knowledge that they will be treated with dignity, and that no effort will be spared by the Manager, volunteers and Vincentians to assist them to the best of their ability.

The Centre's role is

(a) It provides a point of contact for people needing help.
(b) It is a receiving and distribution point for items donated by the community to enable the society to give to those in need the best of what is collected
(c) It enables low income earners to spread their funds further as goods, surplus to requirements, are sold at very reasonable prices.
(d) It can help in meeting the needs of some community members by providing friendship, companionship and support; and
(e) It enables the money earned from the sale of surplus goods to be utilised in other ways to help needy people.
