St Mark's Anglican Church, Te Aroha, New Zealand, has been a place of worship for many generations since the 1880's.
Over the years between 1886-1925 various funds were raised to build a place of worship for settlers to the area who identified with the Church of England.
The church these funds built was in 1925 relocated to Waihou and still remains as a community church. It is still often referred to as 'the old St. Mark's'.
The Reverend Connolly set about the task of building a new church to accommodate the growing attendance and the vestry of St. Mark's set about raising funds.
In 1926 the church was consecrated and worship has been held within the church since. Built and dedicated as a Peace Memorial Church, St. Mark's holds a special place in Te Aroha's history.
The organ currently in St. Mark's church was brought over from Shropshire by the Wayne family. It is an historical organ that, as far as we can determine, was one of 10 organs built through a tax pushed through Parliament by Queen Anne. How or why it left London remains a mystery, yet this organ continues to provide enjoyment to many who gather to hear it played and is still used most Sunday's.
WE BELIEVE in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
