If your child is sporty, athletic or neurodivergent - avoid this school like the plague.nAfter a long family history at this school I didn’t think twice before enrolling my children. When the current Principal started we felt the school went down hill, we had no support in trying to get assessment for a neurodiversity. The teacher at the time and Principal didn’t want to help, would rather tar them with the naughty child brush and shun them. The supposed senco told me she ‘wasn’t really’ the senco at went on to ignore every email I sent her, this is not the current senco luckily. They were constantly put down, shunned and made to feel unwanted and unsupported by the teachers to the point their mental health was suffering. At least their friends stuck up for them. The older children weren’t allowed to play group sport on the field or play on the playground as it was too intimidating for the junior children.nSo much for the GRACE values they harp on about - they were shown the opposite.nHowever we found Sara Williams worth her weight in gold, absolutely wonderful lady. She showed my children kindness and genuinely cared about their education.nChanged schools and children are thriving.nOn the upside there is some lovely families sadly most have left now from the same experience as we had.
Best school in Upper Hutt by far, the teachers are wonderful and very welcoming and supportive.
My students went to this school the older one was here for 4 years and she around 8 friends in one day same with the younger one
Horrid! I went here myself when I was a year 7 back in the 80s it was so bad! And my kid hates this school with there whole heart they don't do anything about bullying or serous problems it makes me sick i have counted numerous times were my child would come home crying because of the teachers and how the school deals with problems its the kids, the teachers, and the learning that makes this school so bad. Never send your child to this school until you want them to have mental problems and go down dark paths.
I wanted to take a moment to share my experience and gratitude with St Brendan’s School. I have been really impressed by the education and care my children and family have received since starting here in 2021. The Teachers, Support Teachers, Leaders, and Principal are all very professional and supportive. There are robust policies and procedures in place to ensure that each of my children have had a smooth transition into school life. As a family we have received individualised attention and support which has truly made our children and us as parents feel so welcomed and valued. The GRACE values are strongly emphasised throughout the teaching and learning programme and this has given our children a wonderful sense of belonging at school. There is a particular focus on kindness towards others and caring for each other and nature. The school gets involved in lots of local and national events which is exciting and provides an opportunity to learn about giving and supporting others learning about generosity and compassion. A highlight for my two children has been the buddy system where value is highly placed on the Tuakana-Teina relationships of the students. Overall, a really amazing experience.
