Story

About Southern Institute of Technology.

For almost 40 years the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) has been proudly providing quality vocational education and training across a broad range of subject areas and at a variety of levels. SIT offers programmes from certificate to bachelor degrees and postgraduate level, so you can enter your training at the level that suits you and progress when you are ready.

Taking an innovative approach to education, SIT offers a Zero Fee Scheme - so you can study without incurring tuition fees, maximising your opportunities whilst minimising your debt! This applies to both on-campus and distance learning programmes. Combine this with the competitive cost of living in the heart of the spectacular southern outdoors and SIT becomes the tertiary choice worth making! Many of our programmes staircase to higher level qualifications at SIT, or other institutions in New Zealand and throughout the world. We are constantly developing these relationships to ensure our graduates have maximum mobility.

In some programmes, such as the Bachelor of Audio Production, these links with other institutions enable the students to spend time in another country during the course of their degree. With around 13000 students, SIT is big enough to offer variety and a student culture, yet has small class sizes ensuring plenty of hands-on experiences. The main campus is in Invercargill with three faculties, but you may also like to check out what we offer in Christchurch, Gore and Queenstown.

Not ready to move yet? You can study our flexible SIT2LRN Study Anywhere programmes from anywhere in New Zealand. We offer a range of subjects including Business, Computing, Tourism, Digital Film and Landscape Design. Materials are delivered through a combination of educational TV, internet access and hard copy workbooks - and the Zero Fees Scheme applies to these programmes as well.

Specialties - Diploma, Audio Production, Business Studies, Management, Education, Post Graduate, New Zealand, Graduate Studies, Computer Science, Electrical, Engineering

Good quality campus, full service, comfort, full facility, friendly and professional staff. I recomended. I learned English Course here. Now more students come from other country, i think SIT need to develop more classroom and tutor.
This is an environment you would expect to have support and guidance in, so you have the confidence be able to flourish in the direction you want to head. Not to be left feeling the exact opposite. If you are financially strained, make sure you understand the withdrawal process properly. The way it is written is very confusing. In fact, material that is supposed to house this content, doesn't. I had 2 business owners, 1 financial advisor, and 1 psychology student read the refund policy before I signed up. They, including myself got this completely wrong. So, WITHDRAW within a 2 week period, not the month, as they quite happily will NOT refund your money. They'll just be 'sorry for the inconvenience'. Side note. The course study notes I had for the SIT2LRN Small Business L4 course had grammatical errors, unfinished sentences, and readings I couldn't find. I had to get a friend to access them through Waikato Uni. Facilitators hadn't added their email addresses, and in emails, I was addressed by someones else's name. The first learning institute I have come across with this level of unprofessional, and uncaring demeanor towards the very people they are supposed to be supporting. If I could give a 'no star' it would be that.
I have finished my studies by distance learning from SIT. The admin staff and facilitators were exceptionally supportive during the whole programme tenure. The feedback provided by the facilitators significantly improved my understanding of the topics related to courses of the programme and also helped me in assignment planning and development. Students need to be proactive in communicating with facilitators and administration staff to get timely support as the whole enrolment process and study support during the programme duration depends on the students themselves.
I do not suggest doing any studies here! Had a terrible time with this institute. They have awful facilitators who are nasty and unfair to you. Comments and feedback are vague. but still count on you to complete all of the tasks to their standards. communication with students is insufficient. The workload is completely unfair given the way that they grade. Furthermore, neither the administration nor the student support have been beneficial. Overall, I was dissatisfied with their performance and wished I had picked an other institution. I should have read their testimonials before I joined.
I'm not sure of the rest of it but the hair dressing units very well set up. I was privileged to be asked to be a model. I was very impressed.
Actually a nice place to study. Friendly staff and students.
I wish we had read the reviews of this institution before enrolling. My son worked so hard for his half year course only to find out 90% of his assignments had disappeared and the course manager didn’t put in any effort to find out what happened. It’s near impossible to get any relevant help from the administration. They treated my son like he had not put in any effort at all, failed him and asked him to redo the course the next year at half the pace. Unbelievable waste of time and effort. Total lack of student support. I have only now uncovered so many similar situations with other students. I proofread all of the assignments my son submitted, I know how much hard work he put in. All for what? Nothing. How does this institution get away with treating young people this way?
Great place to learn new hobbies and meet new people and we still got free leaning down here bottom of the south I hope it stays that way
Tree was made too hard to climb. And the coal stacks were disappointing. Lovely walk ways though.
SIT2LRN course for level 4 applied science was good, facilitators were very supportive. But… If you have no further study plans straight after this course I would not recommend taking it as they were not able to send out a half way progress report which on their website is supposed to be sent to you 6-8 weeks into the course. I never received this and almost a month and a half later AFTER the course had finished, I am still fighting to get a copy of my HALF WAY results to add to my application for my degree that I wanted to do. As they couldn’t send me out anything, this is a large part of the reason I was placed on the waiting list for my degree and will be delayed until next year which is very upsetting. Very unreliable, has caused a lot of stress as I’ve been mucked around for a while now. One of the women that I’ve been back and forth over email with has sent some not so professional and outright rude emails to me. The application process for this course was a nightmare also, a lot of back and forth with emails and was guaranteed a spot in the course if I dropped my hours of work down to 20. after I dropped my working hours from 40 to 20 as instructed, the lady decided to not accept me, it was then that we spoke to someone higher who had a bit more compassion and understanding to accept me. Overall, if you want to spend $500 on a course to receive no official results of all your hard work and just do it for ‘experience’ then this course might be for you! Thanks SIT >:
