Story

Southair is a comprehensive maintenance facility delivering a wide range of services for all general aviation aircraft under 5700kg with 10 or less seats. Such as scheduled maintenance, accident repairs, rebuilds, corrosion work, propeller dynamic balancing, airframe component overhaul, metal and composite repairs, with the following Rating coverage:

Airframe Group 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7
Rotorcraft Group 1 and 2
Powerplant, piston and turbine, Group 1, 2, 3 (Allison A250, Pratt & Whitney PT6, Walter/GE M601), 7 (Fixed Pitch Propeller)
Inspection Authorization - Annual/Biennial Review of Airworthiness
Glider Class 4 Maintenance Approval

We offer a full maintenance planning service and will maintain your log books and inform you of any impending scheduled activities to be carried out.

ENGINE SHOP
Our engine shop has been shipping out fully overhauled engines and components since 1964. Part 145 CAA approved overhaul facility in Categories C1(piston engine powerplants overhaul and maintenance) , C2 (mechanical components overhaul and maintenance) and C3 (electrical equipment components overhaul and maintenance). Specializing in Lycoming, Continental, Gipsy, Rotax engines and components.


PAINT SHOP
Southair's paint shop is large enough to take a fully assembled Cessna 206.

12m x 12m x 3m VOC compliant with proper filtration/extraction and temperature control equipment.

Experienced in:

Using chemical paint strippers or Hydroblasting (low pressure water media paint and corrosion removal) for paint removal.
Applying alodine and pre-coat conversion coatings.
Applying Nitrate and Butyrate dopes to fabric aircraft
Applying etch and epoxy primers, 2K and basecoat/clearcoat paint systems, colour schemes, markings and decals to required specifications.
Sealing wooden aircraft structure.

This facility is also available for hire for projects such as cars, boats etc.


NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING
In conjunction with its engine overhaul shop, Southair carries out non-destructive testing of engine and airframe components using:

ASTM E1417 Inspection - Liquid Penetrant
ASTM E1444 Inspection - Magnetic Particle using our AC/DC Magnaflux machine

All testing is carried out under our Part 145 approval by trained and qualified staff and the testing regime is audited by an outside agency on a regular basis.
