A quaint museum that's full of interesting information about the area. The historical excerpts were interesting and captivating. Many of the exhibits are text heavy but still packed with relevant factoids including historical images. They had a great school holiday event when we visited which was a smart way to keep the youngsters engaged and curious.
This is a charming museum rich with facts and artefacts. It covers the natural history of New Zealand as well as changes in human settlement in the area, from both the perspective of the Maori and the European settlers. There was no fee to enter but donations are encouraged. I’d highly recommend visiting this museum if you’re in the area
Great museum, so much history, we wish we had longer to spend here. Great historical displays and learnt a lot about the area. Volunteers were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area. We were impressed that they were open on a public holiday too!
Honestly better than I thought, glad I decided to pop by instead of skipping. Got some very good information about historical wildlife and settlement, I loved the collections of shells and butterflies
One of my favourite museums in New Zealand. Free admission, with two levels of fascinating displays and local collections. What made my visit truly memorable was the warm welcome at reception. As someone new to Timaru, the kind lady at the front desk not only introduced me to the museum but also gave helpful tips about the area, which made settling in so much easier. A wonderful museum made even better by the people.
