Story

Our story
As two sisters that are passionate about all things natural, we wanted to create a product that would be a one stop natural first aid kit to have in the cupboard for the whanau, friends and the pets as well.
Through researching natural products and discussions with elders of what has been used traditionally, and what really works, Kawakawa became the obvious answer.
For us, the most important part was that this would give us time to spend together, creating something wonderful and filling it with love. Making Kawakawa balm, again, ticked all the boxes. We are so excited, to present to you our Kawakawa balm.
We found there was quite a few people making different variety's of Kawakawa balms, but many of them seemed to have a fairly long list of ingredients. Did we really need so many ingredients added in with something nature had already provided?
Along with usingg the best possible ingredients, a big part of creating our balm has been to follow traditional Maori protocol - from the start when we pick our beautiful Kawakawa, until it is lovingly put into jars.
Sourcing our products became the next part of the adventure. We decided if we were going to make a great product, that it absoloutely had to have the best possible ingredients. Both living on farms, we are blessed to have direct access to Kawakawa in its most natural pure state. The Olive oil we decided should be organic regardless of the cost, to make sure that anything in our balm was free from any nasties – theres enough of them around already! Our research showed that adding Calendula would be really beneficial as the oil helps speed up healing of wounds and minor cuts due to its antiseptic and antimicrobial properties and also helps relieve the same skin conditions as Kawakawa; insect bites, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis when applied to the skin. This also we decided needed to be organic. Beeswax was our last main ingredient to source. We could buy this from many different health shops we found, or from one of the hundreds of internet shops, but who knows what this poor beeswax has gone through in the processing to be turned into little pellets for selling. So this has become another project along the way…we source our beeswax directly from local hives and process this ourselves so we know exactly how it has been produced. Vitamin E is lastly added for its preserving qualities – as well of course, as being another wonderful goodie for your skin.
Presented in amber glass jars, not just to look pretty, but to protect the balm from sunlight, and help protect its lifespan.
Our ingredients, unlike many other Kawakawa balms, are simple, back to basics, and only what is really needed:

• Organic Calendula Flowers
• Natural Beeswax
• Vitamin E
