Sock World Hokitika is the home of New Zealand Auto Knitter - manufacturer of the world's best and most innovative circular sock machines; and CSM Yarns - the world's finest sock and hand-knit yarns.

Based in Hokitika on the West Coast of the rugged and beautful South Island of New Zealand, we produce the world's best and in-demand circular sock-knitting machines; and yarns from only the finest quality Merino, and Merino/Possum fibre blend.

Our products are ecologically aware and proudly made in beautiful clean, green New Zealand.

I hate reading the reviews that have been left . I have brought a lot of wool from this shop and just love it. I haven't brought socks or other garments, because I am a spinner and knitter. I do wish to add , if you buy Merino tops jackets ect and woollen jumpers and sock , read the tags , they have to say Made in NZ ,if they say NZ Wool made I China its our wool and made in china, these garments are in kmart and warehouse and street stalls cheap as . Be aware ! This shop is top and there hanks of wool Marino are superb x sue
I love coming to this shop. The staff are amazingly helpful especially the owner. Cant wait to come back and buy more socks the best i have ever bought Cheers
Socks say New Zealand, then in fine print made in china. No mask no entry, exemption not accepted, despite the woman not wearing her mask. Cheap china products and poor service.

Terribly rude staff and double price than other retailers. Don't buy from these old hags. UPDATE- No foul language was used and they are charging double. They denied me entry even though I had a medical exemption for not wearing a face nappy that does absolutely nothing. Good luck dumb Karen. Denying business when your store was absolutely dead is just a bit brain dead but then again you wear a mask all day that depletes your oxygen.... Makes sense
I'm a knitter, and most frequently, a sock knitter, so I found this little shop / museum fascinating. I came away with some lovely sock-weight wool yarn, and a yearning to own one of the machines. The old advertisements were of the 'make money at home' kind, likely very tempting in the 20's and 30's. Would love to visit again.
Fabulous meal delivered for our lockdown dinner date. Thank you SO much, delicious lamb shanks followed by Apple pie Bloody good mate!!
This must be the dullest place in hokitika.....I dont think that many socks are made here and there is not much of a museum apart from some old machines.
Free entry, socks made in the museum only $15 but you couldn't spend very long there
An interesting place to visit. Kids loved watching the video of how the socks were made using machines.
