The home of golf where many great players have competed in the Open held every 5-7 years. Except the time when tournament is being held, you can walk around fairways even dogs can enjoy running around the course!!. Public ballot is made every day except Sundays so you can play golf at the worlds most prestigious golf course if you are lucky!!
As a life long golfer this was a dream to come to the birthplace of golf and experience the city of St. Andrews and walk the area around the course, I wasn't able to play, but still great! We took a train from Edinburgh for a wonderful day trip and walked around the city finding all kinds of shops and restaurants. FOLLOW ME for more thoughtful recommendations as I travel the world
What more can I say about this magical place other than you have to go and the experience will surpass any and all expectations you have. I recently visited for the first with a group of golf sickos and to say it was the highlight was an understatement. I had a flood of emotions throughout the entire round and truly will never forget it. If you love golf you have to take the leap and go!
To play this course is the biggest experience you can have in golf. It is the first 18 hole course in the world, and it is the home of golf. The historic ambiance combined with one of the worlds most well kept golf courses makes this experience greater than life. I enjoyed every second of my visit and hopefully I am lucky enough to return and play some day
Easy to get to and located just off the water so a great backdrop. Easy to walk the course and follow golfers although there could be better viewing platforms and space created around greens to watch the action. Catering facilities were decent although very expensive. Could do with having the same offering at each station. Overall a good day out. We went when the sun was out though, might not be so good if the heavens opened up!
What an amazing place. Played April 2022 and the infrastructure was going up for the open so felt more special playing in front of grandstands. Great condition with immaculate greens and fairways and every bunker looked to be rebuilt. The nerves don’t come from the course t comes from the aura around the place, the history and groups of random people just standing watching you play. The 17th road hole played to its reputation but throughly enjoyable day and round of golf
A genuinely once in a lifetime experience, my first tournament to visit in person, The 150th Open @ St Andrews. It didn't disappoint. It's even better in person than I could've imagined.
The beginning of golf awaits you at the historic St. Andrews Old Course in beautiful Scotland. You don't need to love the game of golf to appreciate the beauty and deep history of the Old Course. It is beautifully maintained and lovely to visit. The World Golf Museum is by the 18th green, it's worth the price of the ticket if you love golf. The original Claret Jug is in the museum. It's easy to watch golfers on the Old Course, they allow visitors to walk around with golfers or you can watch from the side streets. We were invited to sit at the 2nd story of The New Course clubhouse and watch our friends tee off from the first hole. I didn't realize the old course had a working street in the middle of the first and 18th fairways, so funny!
What a place!!! We've been to many venues - Lytham - Birkdale - Hoylake - St Georges - Carnoustie - Portrush - but this is something else!!! The course being in the centre of St Andrews adds so much value - superbly organised - the atmosphere outstanding no words can describe it
My friend told me that this is the first course in the world and it’s still been used. I feel the course, and other fields with grasses, are really soft, which is quite different from grasses in my country. That’s really wonderful!
