Very disappointed and a waste of money!nPopped over from Nelson for lunch, first time under new ownership.nTo say I was disappointed was an understatementnMy husband and I both ordered the fish and chips, the delivery of our food was super quick!nOn arrival noticed my husband fish was a lot bigger than my portion. One of my fillets was particularly smaller, It was overcooked, dry and the chip’s greasy.nMy mesclun salad was rotten with leaves stuck together rotting. Large chunks of red onion cut like you’re making stock, not a salad.nThe chef came out of the kitchen and hovered around the restaurant asking how the meals were. Which I replied good, how intimidating having the chef ask how their food is! How does a customer tell him his food isn’t up to scratch in front of other customers!?nWhen the waitress came and asked how the meal was, I said it was pretty average explained what was wrong with it and showed her.nHer reply was I’ll let the chef know. No apology, no nothing. $30 each for a plate of greasy chips, over cooked fish and rotting mesclun.nOur local fish and chip shop does a better meal at half the price!nAs a person who works in the industry there’s many things you can improve on.nOne- the meals coming out so quickly, is anything actually cooked from scratch Or just reheated? I’m pretty sure the fish is bought in pre battered and pre cooked which is a real shame considering your location right on the waterfront.nFood Control- The mesclun will sweat if left in its plastic bag, take it out, sort through the leaves so it doesn’t end up on the plate!nService- when you have a complaint..address it!!nThe customer is the one who keeps you in business!! We are not always in the right, but reading your reviews you haven’t listened to any of us.nDo better and grow your business into a place we want to visit
When you arrive there, they’ll look you up and down, and then if you don’t have a booking proceed to tell you there’s a minimum spend if you’re just coming in for drinks.nWe were just wearing casual clothes after a walk, and felt utterly judged by them. We still ended up eating - was really excited for the mussels - but essential is like a very thick cream mayo with the lovely large mussels. Which kind of ruined things.nOverall bad experience
I had the most amazingly fresh, large, and succulent mussels I've ever had in my life here. I ordered it natural no sauce, just cooked in water with salt. The only way this could taste good is if the mussels were fresh, and they were extremely fresh. I didn't even put salt or lemon juice on my mussels.nnWe also ordered the tiramisu dessert which was also cooked to perfection, being light, fluffy, aromatic, with just the right amount of sweetness.nnThe restaurant is perfectly situated on the dock side where you can see the fishing boats come in and out when you enjoy your food. It is very clean, well-lit, and simply but tastefully appointed.nnWhile Havelock is a bit off the beaten path for many tourists, I can attest that the quality of the mussels you can get here is head and shoulders above what you can in nearby Nelson and Picton. It's worth the trip for mussel afficionados.
DInner tonight was at the unique location right on the Havelock slipway, a delicious tortelli with heavenly flavours, stuffed with ricotta and spinach and the most lucsious creamy sauce, a perfect pasta, and a perfect portion. Matched with a chardonnay and followed with the most wonderful cheesecake with a berry sauce again the portion just right size. Add excellent company, and service that is just spot on, attentive wtih great timing, all made for a most excellent end to a wonderful weekend in the Marlborough Sounds. This restaurant is a must visit for all the reasons in my review!
Great ambience. Good prosecco selection. EXCELLENT food. Best salmon chowder I ever head. Super recommend eating here
