Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, she said she learned on the job. It was a quarter moon so though it seemed like the sky was just as dark in the north island it was great to learn some about the stars. We also got the opportunity to see the moon, some very bright stars, Milky Way strand, and some shooting stars. Blankets, warm jackets and chairs provided. Recommend going a couple jacket sizes larger to fit your other clothes over. Wear warm socks and shoes. My feet were the only cold thing.
We had the 9/11/2022 a tour for stargazing but the weather was way to cloudy, they proposed us to have a full refund or come back the next day. So we came back the next day. It was absolutely amazing !!! We had warm jacket it's really cold by night they let us use for the tour. Xavier is a pit of knowledge about the sky. He succeeded to be extremely interesting both nights and we had a good sky with really bright moon the second night, it was crazy to see on the telescope. A must do ! Je recommande !!!
We had an incredible experience with Silver River. Our guide, Sam was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and not only did we have an amazing visual experience but we also learnt so much. I would highly recommend booking through Silver River for your star gazing experience in Lake Tekapo. We would come back and do it again if we visit in the future!
Loved the entire experience. He takes a great picture at the end and his telescope let's you see some far away galaxies, it's damn cool. 10/10 Sam is super knowledge and entertaining, also good luck to the front of house girl who's going to be a stewardess.
Two months ago our family stargazing tour was cancelled due to poor weather and we were assured of a full refund within 10 days. However, despite repeatedly trying to contact Silver River Stargazing via email and phone, we still haven't received a refund and not even had any response to emails/phone calls. This is unacceptable.
Our guide Sam was amazing - he was so knowledgeable. It was very interesting learning about the stars and solar system. I absolutely loved this experience!
My friend and I had a lovely time! We were in a small group of 7 and had Marklin as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining, especially during a tired time our tour was at 2am. Highly recommend him as a guide. We went on a full moon and were able to capture great photos through the telescope. The tour is sectioned into three parts- first section is looking at constellations through the naked eye, second we looked through the telescope at a few different spots in the sky, then we took photos! Overall amazing experience and great company to stargaze with.
An awesome evening. Were given very warm jackets to wear over our existing jumpers, and were then transported the 5-10 minutes drive to their viewing area. It was setup already with an 85x zoom telescope, and we were delighted with the details provided and the viewing we received. We went on the 11pm trip, and all the kids loved it.
Make sure you check your bank for a refund of cancelled tour. We are a group of five and our tour on the 8th July have cancelled due to bad weather, refund has only been processed after a month on 10th Aug with my follow up email. Wow! I did the Astrophotography tour with Fraser & Xavier last night and it was the highlight of my trip so far. These guys have a brilliant setup just out of town with zero direct light pollution. All the gear you could imagine and they are prepared to customise the tour to pretty much what ever you're interested in shooting groups are up to 4 people max. Despite some stronger than desired winds and a few clouds we managed to get some great images of nebula and galaxies as well as some great night sky panoramas, timelapses and star trails. If you're a photographer with any interest at all in photographing the night sky this tour is worth every penny!
