Story

Shalom Counselling Services has been started by Margie Upson. Her hope is to come along side people on their journey towards wholeness or 'shalom.' A trained Counsellor, Debriefer, and Spiritual Director, she holds a B.Counselling degree from Laidlaw College as well as a certificate in Clinical Traumatology from the Traumatology Institute in Toronto, Canada.

She has spent 17 years in Nigeria, West Africa from 1991 - 2008 with Serving In Missions NZ. Ten years of which was spent working with those living and dying with HIV/AIDS providing her with much experience in the area of loss and grief.
She later worked at Le Rucher, France from 2011-2013, a centre specialising in debriefing for returned overseas mission partners.
In returning to New Zealand, she used this model at the Titoki Healing Centre. Margie has also debriefed critical incidents, including violent deaths and suicide on the mission field, rape and those freed from hostage situations. She has also provided trauma counselling after the Christchurch and Nepal earthquakes.
Margie has also trained as a Spiritual Director with Spiritual Growth Ministries New Zealand and enjoys providing facilitation for personal and/or group retreats.
