In 1893, Joseph George Haddow travelled up the Waitotara River in a canoe. He settled on his farm Kaimoko with his wife Sophie and their family. This land has been farmed with true pioneer spirit by his descendants.
Known as Makowhai Station, and comprising 25,000 acres of sheep and beef country, native bush and manuka, the land is now farmed by his great grandson Henry Matthews. Settlers Honey is a tribute to the pioneers of Makowhai Station and the pristine environment in which it is located.
