Scenic Hotel Southern Cross

Room was clean and comfortable. Convenient location. Could hear voices from ajoining room. Bathroom quite small. Very comfy bed and plenty of pillows. Good to have an on-site car park, perhaps $10 a day not $20. Front desk people friendly with check in and out simple. Would stay again.Rooms: 4/5

Huge line at reception for check-in at 4:30, as well as a number of people sitting on their bags or chairs in the lobby. Some very disgruntled guests whose rooms weren't ready for them. I was surprised they weren't offered a complementary drink in the bar or something?!? until I discovered they wouldn't open until 5:00. Our room was ready so we were lucky, but the reception experience was off-putting. The room was fine--clean and comfortable. A lot of traffic noise through the night, even from 6 floors up. Great location with good eateries nearby.

I enjoyed the room spaciousness and comfort, the efficient checking In and Out, the bar and restaurant. Excellent the breakfast buffet. On the negative side I found that the bathtub arranged as a shower was not good, the toilet space was as large as a three-penny stamp. and the basin was as large as one-penny stamp, so to speak.

Excellent large, clean and well catered rooms. Very central to the Octagon. Unfortunately I was given my breakfast bill before I had even finished my cereal, for the cheaper continental charge. Effectively barring me for going for the hot cooked option. Yes I could have objected, but I was quite taken aback. Free parking is a lottery, get in early! Rooms: Gorgeous rooms, opening windows and great city views. Walkability: 5 minutes to the Octagon. Casino on site, dairy 3 minutes away. No complaints at all

Great location and excellent staff. However, the hotel needs a major refit. A very tired hotel in the 1970s style. Rooms and corridors old and tired. Lifts look worn out and our room had a very old fridge. It was odd to have a mini bar and no glasses! Also 2 tea cups and one mug! There is no air conditioning or ventilation in the rooms. One sheet had a tiny amount of blood on it. Maybe it was red ink? I’m struggling to see how it promotes itself as a 4.5 star hotel. Personally I’d give it a 3.5. I want to be positive because the staff were excellent. Upgrade soon I hope.

Finding good people to work in NZ is pretty difficult so when you come across a bunch of good people you should mention it. Team warm and friendly, room service available yay! Attention to detail, room warm its winter and comfortable. Reasonable rates.

We've stayed here twice now this time around we were not happy about the whole ordeal. Firstly, it took about 15 minutes to find our reservation which i only booked over the phone the night before for the "superior king suite" After making a new reservation for that same suite, I had also mentioned no shower over bath We got to our room and I'm sure we were just put into the standard suite.. The bathroom was terrible, The shower was horrible and it was over a bath, My husband struggled to have a decent shower because hes so tall you couldn't adjust the head correctly. Bathroom was was very pokey, no ventilation and no hairdryer. No balcony to be able to sit out, the room was pretty dated, the luxing hadn't been done properly, The only positive thing i will say it was nice and close to our do we had attended but I don't think we will be staying here again.

Good location. Excellent Hotel if you love a traditional place. Some modern amenities like Aircon for cooling and USB outlets not available. Well kept except that not much assistance in moving your luggage. Addressing these matters will certainly make it a more desirable place. Best wishes.Rooms: 5/5

Yet another nice stay at the Southern Cross. Who wouldn't have a good night's sleep on those mattresses ? :- And Jayjim not sure spelling ? and Eve made for a comedy duo on reception but also made the guests feel welcomed and important There for work so needed a good sleep so they didn't disappoint Would recommend

Always a pleasure to stay here and yet on my previous review, the air vent to n the bathroom was filthy as is this one in a different room. I was assured by management this would be sorted. Toilet roll holder is in a state of disrepair as the rolls keeping falling off when touched. Awesome prawn horns from the restaurant two nights running as were the main meals.
