We really enjoyed staying at the Rutland Arms. The room was cosy and quiet and the bed very comfortable. The hotel is so well situated, being on the corner of the main shopping street and a short walk from the river and the wonderful Saturday morning market. The dining area/bar has lots of charm and is reminiscent of an English pub. We would definitely stay here again, and will be back as we didn't get to see enough of this lovely city. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars for the room was because the carpet is stretched which detracted from the charm of the room.
This place has a solid reputation and I'm sure it's mostly well deserved. My family and I ate there in Nov 23, they fit us in w/out booking that night and it was fabulous. So for Nov 24 I booked three weeks in advance for the same date . Myself and one other arrived on time for our booking to be told we were 15mins late and that it would be 1.5hrs wait for food. I corrected them that we were on time and, after their investigation, were told our booking had been changed to 15mins earlier due to a large group that night. No one told me!! The message wasn't passed along. We certainly could have arrived 15mins earlier if we had been alerted.nSo we left :-nCome on guys, all customers are important. Not just the customer that comes in a large group.nPerhaps, a victim of their own success, I don't know, but I am certainly now apprehensive about booking again.
We completed the Mountain to Sea bike ride and stayed here.nVery helpful and hospitality driven staff. They could store our bikes and helped in every way they could.nExcellent rooms with and old world charm.nHighly recommended.
This place has a great selection of beers on tap. I arrived at 9.30 p.m. on a Thursday and they were reluctant to serve me as it was quiet and the staff wanted to go home. I ordered one beer that just tasted bad - like musty stale socks and dirty water. I immediately told them, and to their credit they replaced it. But the replacement beer also tasted off and tainted! It's a mouldy, musty, plasticky flavour. I can only think that maybe they aren't cleaning their lines properly. It's quite a travesty to be serving what should be good quality beer through dirty lines. I'm not a snob but I do have functional taste-buds and a tongue. Come on guys, don't spoil good beer and your reputation through bad hygiene.
Just went into get some dinner and we got told theirs a hour wait for food witch is completely fine as it looked bissy but moments later as a table was getting cleared for us the bartender stated we couldn't get dinner cause it's to bissy. I wouldn't of been as salty about the situation if we got turned away from the beginning and having called up prior asking when the kitchen was shutting if anything we felt shunded deffintly won't be coming back but to the lady that was clearing a table go you deffintly deserve a raise
