I found the staff at the Rusty Pelican to be very friendly and welcoming as soon as I stepped through the door. The food really is delicious and in such generous portions making it great value for money. They were very capable with my dietary needs as a Coeliac and were quick to advise me. An all around wonderful experience and somewhere I'd very highly recommend not just to other Coeliacs but everyone else too!
Nice pub in Matakana. We were seated pretty quickly. Indoor and outdoor seating available. We ordered the garlic pizza, spicy chicken pizza and rib eye steak with mushroom sauce.nnGarlic pizza was a little dry and came with a very thick hummus that wasn't great, spicy chicken pizza was nice, very little spice. Rib eye was cooked to order which I liked. Chips were ok, however the salad was pretty rubbish. The lettuce was wilted, the coleslaw was not edible. Cabbage was brown and overall the salad did not look fresh at all. We didn't even attempt to eat it.
The fish and chips were okay 3/5 good portion size but lacked seasoning and real taste as they were a little bland. The pizza was tasty and of a good portion size nothing to complain about there.
Service was good. Great location and atmosphere.nBut food is big time downfall.nJust imagine kidney beans in red sauce in your pizza and big massive chunks of pineapples in pizza.. and the colour says it was left couple of mins extra in oven.nI would high recommend make it small but just keep it authentic.nPasta on other side was good. Was just lacking little seasoning.nnService is amazing though!!
Generally I don't like to do bad reviews but this was ridiculous.nHaven't been around the area so thought it would be nice to eat out local.nWent for earlier dinner last night, when we were arrived there was only a few tables 2-3 I got a fish burger with fries. My burger consisted of battered fish which was soggy and felt like it was sitting in old oil for a long time, the buns was ciabatta the only good thing, wilting iceberg lettuce, and very flavourless mayo. I have a tomato allergy so all i asked for was that there was no tomato or tomato sauce on the side for the chips The burger was majority wilting lettuce, so utterly the burger was flavourless.nKeep in mind, this is nearly a $30 meal.nService was ok- the waitresses were nice but the staff at the till was not very friendly so overall not that remarkable.nThe place looks lovely, the aesthetic is quite rustic which is cool, so its a shame that thenfood wasn't on par.
