Story

Welcome to Rustic Eating House. This is the newest restaurant in Waiouru opening late January 2018.

"Mouthwatering food that will amaze your taste buds can be found at Rustic's first restaurant located in Waiouru. Head chef Tyson Burrows, known throughout New Zealand from the show My Restaurant Rules NZ has taken 'stop for a bite to eat' to the next level. Situated on the main highway of New Zealand, this is not truck stop food, but there is room for a truck to stop. Want a quick bite to eat? Our cabinets are stocked full of great food for those in a hurry. Fully licensed they also offer event catering either at the restaurant or at local venue of your choice. We look forward to seeing you."

Wow this is actually a fantastic little part of the world. Absolutely fantastic service and food quality with the young lady serving holding the Kiwi Flag of service proud. while sitting to eat, you could hear all of the serving staff actually engaging with the customers and even coming to make sure all was well. Proud and humbled to have had the pleasure of eating here. Well Done guys.
This is a great Cafe on the route. If you plan to travel through Taupo to north or south way, this Cafe is a must-stop and having-food place. You will never be disappointed. Food is beautiful and the interior too.Food: 5/5

We were in the Tongariro with cold and wanting to have lunch something tasty and of good quality, searching on google and this place appeared to us with many good reviews, we decided to come and meet it despite the distance and without a doubt it was worth it, people attending with a smile, tasty and colorful dishes and a very good price. If you feel like eating at home, this place is for you!
Wowee! Delicious, well presented food at a great price. The service was great. The decor is cosy with the fire going on a chilly day. They also have great crafts for sale! I highly recommend this hidden treasure, I know we will definitely call in again as we pass through.Food: 5/5
Must stop in and eat here if in Waiouru! Staff friendly, big smiles when greeted and genuinely seem to be happy to work there. Resturant clean and tidy, rustic decor and I liked the pink panther Xmas tree haha. Good menu selection. We tried the big breakfast, the half breakfast and the soup of the day which was leek and vegetable. Food was very good, nice attention to detail from the chefs, fresh produce and a lovely home made feel. All cooked perfectly and great flavours in the soup and home made beans. Everything cooked to perfection on the plate. Would definately recommend and will visit again :
Dined in here by accident when we needed to make a detour due to a road accident over the Desert Road. But we didn't regret trying out their food. Service is also fantastic. Will always include this in the itinerary when doing a roadtrip up north.Food: 5/5
It is definitely the best cafe in town, the food is AMAZING and the place is very nice to, with a small pop un shop. Definitely recommend if you a traveling by !
Amazing food and service. Really homely vibe. I would highly recommend this as a stop if you are looking for awesome food. Also its worth noting the bathrooms were super clean which is a welcome relief when you are on a long road trip.
Cleanest facilities I have been in. Fire was welcomed. Lots of things to look at throughout. Bought a couple of lamps and local crafts from the pop up shop. Well worth a stop for breakfast or lunch. Meals reasonably priced and good value.Food: 4/5
