We took the ferry from Paihia wharf and arrived in Russell wharf in 20 minutes. It cost us $16 return and our sailing went very well. The ferry is every 30 minutes. Russell Wharf is very spacious and can accommodate huge crowds. We arrived in Russell wharf around 3 pm and left at 6pm so we could also see the sunset. Our journey went through without any glitch. The weather was beautiful which made a huge difference.
Brilliant day out about 40 minutes on the ferry. The beaches are beautiful. Had a lovely walk too. Would recommend if you are into walking.
Great little ferry service from paihia to Russell and then the return trip usually every half hour during the day.. The times are posted where you buy your tickets from. Nice to pop across to Russell to sample some of the local cuisine and local and imported wines. There is something for every wallet, from store bought Fish and chips, to bistro styled food. Plus there is the option of a few upmarket Restaurants, priced accordingly.
It was very nice. Busy little place with the normal tourist attractions; shops. Plenty of restaurants and cafes at reasonable prices. Picturesque ferry ride across from Piahia and 16 nz dollars return on the Happy Ferry. Around 8 English pounds. Sorry, no happy backy, just the name of the service. A nice few hours with the ferry crossing taking around 20 minutes.
Our first visit, it was great. I was walking with my partner appreciating everything, how calm and peaceful this place can be.
