My girlfriend and I, both first timers, had a fantastic experience. The horses were calm and responsive; the guide was encouraging, friendly, and knowledgeable. We will definitely be coming back again. Definitely recommend!
Very disappointing. Booked a 1:1 advanced ride as a birthday treat, discussed what I was wanting with the owner by phone and email prior to booking. On the day, whilst the guide was lovely, she was there as a volunteer and unwilling to do more than the odd trot. The horses are so conditioned to beginnner treks the guide also advised they are only comfortable riding nose to tail. Any attempt to do otherwise was discouraged and difficult. Three hours of walking, with the occasional trot, on an out and back route down a gravel road was really not the experience I wanted or paid for. Huge disappointment. Feedback given to owner but no response.
The staff were wonderful. The kids were nervous at first, but the girls looked after them really well with calm and clear i instructions. Would definitely recommend and hope to return for a longer ride
Such an awesome experience! Loved every moment. The horses were beautiful and easy going, our guide Izzy was awesome. Really keen to come back and do it again! Rose was the best horse of all
We had our first family ride today. That an amazing experience! We trekked through the local village, along the railway lines and through a small stream. A few ups and downs to keep you on your toes, but thoroughly enjoyable. Our hosts were patient and gracious and ensured we were comfortable and safe.
My family and I went on a trek led by Sophie and she was absolutely fantastic. We were a group of 8 with mixed abilities, ages and weights and all felt totally comfortable & enjoyed our ride. We liked it so much 3 of us went back for lessons the next day. Thanks so much!! 10/10
We took our young one along for a short ride. She had never ridden a horse before and the staff member and horse were lovely with her, the whole experience was very gentle and she loved it. Really reasonable price and definitely worth it. Best to ring with a day or two notice.
The wild Wild West is right in our back yard! Ohakune has an amazing authentic cowboy trek that I would recommend to anyone. My partner and I went on the 1.5 hour bush trail riding Beauty and Rose. They are fabulous horses with plenty of personality and patience. Our trek started with a quick ride down the road than then followed the train tracks. Picturesque tumble weeds and locals yelling “yeeeee daaaawgy! A train is coming” made me feel like I was transported in time. Izzie, our awesome guide was great with local facts. She was also content with comfortable silence as we took in the scenery which I found so calming. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. We did this after 2 weeks of snowboarding and aching muscles but the saddles were a treat!
To bad! Should do a trek for 3 hours with my barfeed appaloosa. Staff knows that she didn't have shoes. The trek was on terrible gravel road...moar as 3 kilometers...I know the distance because we followed that trek as 4wd that morning. After a view minutes I asked her how far she goes...oh almost there was the answer. I turned and walked back with my horse on the lead. It's definitely NOT a horse trek. My partner hired a horse from that stable...his saddle was way to small. He walked back as well with horse on the lead. The owner Sue didn't understand my complaining. So now I have still a horse with sore hooves...and no refund. Don't go there if you are a horse lover.
Was a great experience to ride a horse here. Great views of mt. Ruapehu and adventures rides in Rangataua forest. They have horse suits to anyone from total beginners to advanced riders. Pricing is really friendly and staff helpful.
