Royal Albatross Centre
"Meet the monarchs of the sky...Dunedin's iconWith a wingspan of more than three metres, the Royal Albatross is the world’s largest flying seabird. These aerial giants spend most of their lives at sea and usually breed on remote islands, but a 45 minute drive from Dunedin brings you to the Royal Albatross Centre at Taiaroa Head, the world’s only mainland breeding colony. Guided tours give you the chance to see nesting birds and, if you’re lucky, their chicks. You might also see albatrosses soaring above the cliffs, while below on Pilot’s Beach seals loll on the rocks or enjoy the surf.If you stay until nightfall you can join a tour to watch Little Blue Penguins – the world’s smallest – returning to their nests."

Lovely drive to the colony only to realize that to see the albatrosses we had to pay for a tour. Overly priced to maybe or maybe not see any of the birds. There is a platform for non paying guests where you can't see much. Overall experience was not that good 2 1/2 stars
Pretty sure I got lucky with my visit here, 100 per cent sure I need a better camera next time but we saw heaps of the adolescents in flight very windy day a parent feeding its chick then flying back off to fetch more food and the chicks. Was a really awesome time and would highly recommend!
What a great experience. Dominic was a great guide and so knowledgeable. Worth every penny for a guided tour. Got to see two chicks who were getting ready to take off to Chile anytime soon.
Never thought this would be on my list while in the area, was glad we stopped in! Fluffy chicks and had adult albatross come in to feed them!! Avo lighting was a nice touch
What wonderful dedicated people there are here. Had an enjoyable and informative two hours at the centre.
