We are a residential service for people under 65 with a physical disability. Our aim is to provide a home that fosters adult choice, responsibility and self-determination.
Realpeople@rowan is a residential service for people under 65 with a disability. Realpeople@rowan's philosophy is to create an atmosphere that fosters adult choice, responsibility and self-determination. Staff work alongside clients to provide support in completing the necessary tasks of life, assisting them to do as much as they can. With four buildings, 22 available beds and over 30 skilled and dedicated staff, Realpeople@rowan is a lively and friendly homelike place to live.
Background
The service began in 1983 as Rowan House, a converted 12 bed former nurse's home. Two purpose built four bedroom cottages were added in 2004. Originally the service supported people who were more mobile. Today's flatters have higher care needs and more of them are in wheelchairs.
Service Philosophy
Realpeople@rowan's operating philosophy is to encourage independence, choice and community participation in flatters. A strong emphasis is placed on rehabilitation, and Presbyterian Support East Coast is also committed to working in partnership with flatters so that their real needs are met.
