Story

Robbies is a family bar and bistro restaurant that is popular throughout the Canterbury Region. Robbie’s is well known for our great atmosphere, friendly staff and a vast selection of Kiwi cuisine with meals to suit anyone’s appetite. We offer a range of daily in house specials from breakfasts and light meals to mains and desserts.

Our bar has a large range of quality beverages including New Zealand beers and wines. We have several wines from the award winning Torlesse Winery in Waipara- a little over 45minutes from us. We also have a large range of the ever popular and award winning craft beers from local Brewery.

We have a lovely garden area filled with picnic tables and cafe styled seating under the shade of the climbing wisteria and grape vines or fairy-light lit trees and building. Or come in enjoy a quiet table by one the fires to really indulge in the Robbies winter warmth. Either way our lovely staff can’t wait to help create a relaxing and pleasurable dining experience.

Pretty average. Food was average, beef in burger tasted boiled not fried. If you're looking for a dinner place I suggest getting fish and chips or another take away - at least they are worth the price!
Big portion size. Ribs and fish and chips were decent.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The meals were quick to our table. I had the lamb shank which was delicious and my hubby had the pasta of the day. He was a bit disappointed at first look coz he thought it was a small meal but as it turned out he struggled to eat it all and said it was awesome. Would highly recommend Robbies Hanmer. Thank you guys

Visited Robbie's twice on our trip around New Zealand once for lunch and once for dinner. Both experiences were excellent. I am vegetarian and my partner is gluten/lactose intolerant so trying to find a restaurant that caters for both of us is challenging. The variety of options for both of us were woderful and the burger my partner ordered for lunch he states is the best he has ever had! The staff were friendly and the facilities great.
It's the worst meal we have ever had. Ordered garlic bread didn't arrive. Staff member was terrible we asked for eggs & onions with a steak they didn't arrive so we ask for them and the staff came back and asked if the we wanted the onions cooked? The place hasn't even busy. We won't be going back. I had the roast of the day meat tough and vegetables hard and uncooked.
We went there to have a roast meal and ordered garlic bread it came to the table we ordered our meal and drinks at the same time, the meal arrived before the drinks, the roast was veges were steamed and the beef had been boiled, not roasted. Really disappointed, looks terrible for the robbies name.
No longer called Robbies, but something different. Place was not overly busy. Both meals were incorrect: I asked for roast without potato. Asked for extra pumpkin instead. Came out with mash potato. Brocoli and cauliflower were raw. Roast beef however was delish. Hubby ordered medium well done steak, it came out rare as if it were walking round the paddock with slight sunburn. His meal got returned and a new one done. Consequently we ate at different times not a great start for a wedding anniversary. Give the staff their due tho; the were extremely apologetic and gave us a 25% discount off the meal. Apart from the meals, staff were friendly and attentive.
Well placed family restaurant with friendly staff and a nice environment. For hanmer springs it was a good value for money and the food came out quickly. The desserts were a bit bland and they'd run out of two of the choices on the menu, otherwise, the meals were a good portion size and hearty.
Very disappointed with our meals. Steak had no flavour and the pork belly was mostly fat. Sent the Pork Belly back.provided feedback so hopefully will improve.
