About

Welcome to River Riders Ltd - Ngaruawahia

Story

From the humble home of Rider Riders, gifted to us by the kind people of Tainui, our friends and owners of the 'The Arrowlodge Motel' on the lower esplanade near 'The Point' you begin your journey across river from the home of the Maori king - Turanagawaewae, at the northern most point of the 'The Great Te Awa River Ride in Ngaaruawaahia 'The River Kingdom'. You ride south towards the largest man made water crossing of its type in New Zealand 'The Perry Bridge' which spans the 'Mighty Waikato River', a modern master piece that seamlessly blends into the natural beauty of the landscape and river below. Stick around for a twilight ride and you're in for a special treat as the bridge has more to offer than meets the eye. You will continue towards Horotiu passed the Ngaaruawaahia golf course and towards the new 'Te Awa Lakes' development currently accessible off the 'Te Awa River Ride' onto Hutchinson Road and into the 'Perry Bike Park' where kids and big kids play and ride, grab a coffee and a bite to eat before you return back to River Riders to rest at the 'River Bed Motel' and share your experience with family and friends on social media, post your fav pics on Instagram to show off what you've been up to before you head over to the local restaurant of choice 'Poppy's - RSA' which pays tribute through its name to all of the fallen soldiers, men and women that gave their lives for their country - 'We will remember them' - The ANZACS. If you're lucky you may very well be told war and local story's of old by one of the locals here. You can discover Ngaaruawaahia in 2-3days but if you want to learn the ancient ways of the Tanganata Whenua - TAINUI, then you may need to stop into the local real Estate office as these secrets are not for sale. If you sit near Waikato Te Awa and look upwards to the Hakarimata hills you may imagine what it was like here hundreds of years ago when this thriving Maori tribe prospered on these lands and rowed their waka here in 'The River Kingdom'.

Family friendly service - the river riders team were incredibly helpful, delivering a bike to me, making sure it was the right size and lots of helpful advice as we had a amazing experience cycling the Te Awa trail. Excellent service also from electrify in Hamilton who swapped a fully charged battery for me.
Hired two ebikes for my parents today. Dan had everything set up in Ngaruawahia ready for us. He gave my parents some quick tuition on the bikes and we were soon making our way on the Te Awa river cycle path. The bikes were perfect for my parents, they were easy to use, step-through, well set up and provide plenty of adjustable assistance thanks to the electric motor. We covered some 20km and the battery was barely showing any signs of use. The range on these must be incredible! It was great to ride with my parents as without the e-assistance, they would have never joined me for such a ride. A great cycle ride was enjoyed by all. If you are considering this ride, do it. It's perfect for less experienced cyclists. If you are thinking if hiring an ebike, Dan from RiverRidersNZ is the man to see. You will not be disappointed. An easy 5 stars.
Thanks to the River Riders team my family and I were able to spend an enjoyable few hours riding the Te Awa trail. They even organised someone to meet us with the bikes on the public holiday. Highly recommend.
Staff were really helpful. They made sure I was comfortable on my bike before embarking, made sure i knew the settings i got the ebike and have never used one before, provided some amazing advice on the track to ngaruawahia, the bike itself was perfect for the afternoon ride. I would definitely recommend river riders to anyone stopping in hamilton on a nice day and want something to do for a few hours! The views along the river were also a highlight. Thanks alot team, I will be back when the Cambridge section is open
We had a great half day hire and rode the new Te Awa trail from the Velodrome. Easy to deal with and accommodating when they had a large booking but still fitted us in. Highly recommend :
Me, my wife and two year old kid had a fantastic ride from Hamilton to Ngaruawahia. It was the most wonderful experience for our son to ride on a bike as well enjoy the fabulous landscapes. The staff are extremely nice. This was our first ebike experience and felt amazing. We rented two bikes and had the child on a child seat comfortably attached to one of the ebikes. We had a lovely family time out and lots of fun along the way. Would love to do it again.
My 11 month old and I had a fantastic time biking on an e-bike with a child seat along the river from central Hamilton to Ngaruawahia, to the Hamilton Gardens, and biking around Hamilton and Cambridge. Just beautiful cycle tracks - definitely a must do! The team at River Riders were friendly and helpful, and were dedicated to giving us the best biking holiday. The e-bike was great, they gave great instruction on how to use the e-bike, the breakdown service was a lifesaver when we had a puncture in Ngaruawahia, and they got us up and running again. Thank you for a great experience. Highly recommended!
We hired 2 e-bikes from River Riders and cycled from Ngaruawahia to Pukete. We thoroughly enjoyed the cycle. Dan and his lovely family were super friendly and especially helpful. Everything was catered for. I can highly recommend River Riders!
My wife and I hired two bikes from Dan at Garden Place using a two for one deal. We travelled north of the city along the river and seen many sights and perspectives we haven't seen before even as Hamilton locals. After that we travelled to the Hamilton Gardens and enjoyed the Gourmet in the Gardens event. I'd recommend that people give this a go: it's a good way to spend an evening and it wasn't a hassle to find parking for such a large event.
Wonderful experience. My mother 78yrs and I were well supported to have our first ride on an electric bike. Then enjoyed 2 hours on the Te Awa river ride. Thank you so much. Diana & Rosalie.
