Friendly rustic experience, typical of Golden Bay, great place to explore the area from. Sensible prices for camp ground, no electric hook up available though. Food and drinks are reasonably priced and very good. Better selection of craft ale would be welcome. Nearby activities: Within easy reach of Pupu springs and hydro powerhouse by car, as well as Takaka township.

Fan bloody tastic. Pub grub at its best. Marty the chef does great work. Staff friendly and helpful. Big portions, great price and above all a great atmosphere. Met heaps of lovely locals. Will definitely try and get back when we can. Seeing is believing go there if you can. Service: 5/5

Fabulous fish burger, welcoming staff and genuine kiwi pub experience.
After watching a game of rugby on Saturday , we decided to stop in for a drink and ended up staying for dinner, and I’m so glad we did . The food was so delicious and staff were amazing. I had the fish burger and OMG it was the best burger I have had in a long time . So if you are ever over in Golden Bay stop off here and grab a drink and try some delicious food . Thanks the river inn for a great few hours . We will be back .
Lovely family owned hotel Camped on their campground. Spacious grassy field, no marked spaces, just camp where you want For 16$ pp you're allowed to use all facilities including kitchen & shower Hotel itself is a bit older & the showers aren't too modern Staff absolutely lovely Nice bar attached to the Hotel
Great wee spot very relaxed atmosphere and really friendly people. Sooo very comfortable beds too. Has everything you need in a hostel/backpackers. Definitely will stay againRooms: 5/5
These people catered for a private family function and did a fabulous job. Made favorites of the family including absolutely delicious Fish Bites. Staff were lovely to interact with. If I am back in the Bay anytime, I will be going there for a meal
I was travelling alone through Golden Bay and I stopped at the River Inn for a pint. It felt like a bold move but I was soon chatting to the locals and the lovely lady running the bar. I needed accommodation for the following night and I was looked after very well considering they had a private function on. I felt very comfortable and safe! Neat old kiwi pub I highly recommend you stop in! :
